Recent Form

After an extremely dominant display versus Everton on the weekend, Pep Guardiola and his charges will be looking to carry on their winning ways in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Raheem Sterling grabbed the opener in that game with a terrific finish from a brilliant Joao Cancelo pass, and that will surely give the England International some confidence after a less productive season than we’ve become accustomed to from him.

A rather bizarre game in the Parc de Princes on the weekend saw 10-man Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) get a 3-1 win over Nantes, in which Lionel Messi netted his first Ligue 1 goal. With the game poised at 1-1 and with the hosts down to 10-men after Keylor Navas’ red card, luck was very much on the Parisians side after a fortuitous own goal gave them the lead before Messi secured the win with a  trademark strike.

Since 2016, PSG and Manchester City have played five times, with the Citizens holding a positive record of 3W-1D-1L. Kevin De Bruyne has netted at least one goal in three of these games, however he won’t be available here due to testing positive for Covid-19 on Friday.

Bernardo Silva stepped up to the plate in the Belgian’s absence against Everton, so we wouldn’t expect that to have too much of an effect on the outcome here.

Silva is one of the most influential players at City, out of the 35 games that he has played and the 15 he has missed in the Premier League since last season, the Sky Blues win 80% of their games when he starts and that falls to just 47% when he doesn’t.

He has the second highest league win percentage in a Man City shirt from any of their current players, falling behind John Stones who has won 84% of the games he’s started.

Double Chance: PSG-Draw

We have never seen a more stacked team in the history of football than the currently assembled PSG side.

After signing Leo Messi, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window, there’s little doubt that owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi is going all out for that highly coveted Champions League trophy.

Leo Messi could very well be the difference maker in this clash as he has an exceptional record versus English clubs of 35 games and 27 goals, which is incredible considering all of these games have been played in the hardest competition in domestic football. He has scored seven goals from the same number of games against Manchester City.

The bookmakers are heavily underestimating PSG’s dominance as a team, despite not having the best record against Manchester City, the only time PSG played with Messi the game resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Parisiens.

With the Argentine maestro’s record against English sides, and the injuries to key creative players De Bruyne and Jack Grealish, the visitors look like the side holding the best value, and the double chance offers a good cushion.

PREDICTION:

DOUBLE CHANCE: PSG - DRAW
