This is a very unfamiliar position for Guardiola’s men who are sitting in 13th place in the table after nine games with a negative goal difference.
No side has ever gone on to win the league from the bottom half of the table at this stage of the season, though City still remain second favourites for the title which tells you all you need to know about what this side is capable of.
For all the attention on City’s shortcomings this year, they’ve still only lost two matches across all competitions which came to Leicester and Spurs, both of whom are currently in the top four, while against weaker sides City have tended to get over the line.
Indeed, they’re W9-D3-L2 across all competitions this season, though excluding the top four sides that drops to W9-D2 so we have every reason to believe that they can come up trumps here.
Man City -2 Handicap
Burnley have been really struggling this season, though Sean Dyche would have hoped victory over Crystal Palace last weekend would have injected a bit more spirit into his side who had not won at all this season prior to that game, though they somehow have climbed out of the relegation places.
We wouldn’t expect that to last too long, however, as the Clarets are just W5-D10-L33 over the past four seasons against top six finishers, while against City alone it doesn’t make for any prettier reading.
Across all competitions, they’ve now lost 10 of 11 winless games against the Citizens, with the last six meetings all going the way of the Manchester club by an aggregate score of 23-1.
The last three meetings at the Etihad have all finished 5-0, with City covering the -2 handicap in each of their last five home matches against Burnley, and we can see this going a similar way.
Man City To Win To Nil
The visitors have been dreadful in front of goal lately, scoring just twice in eight matches now in all competitions.
Man City have looked more solid defensively than they have done in recent seasons, so the win to nil seems an obvious shout here on home soil.
Ferran Torres To Score Anytime
While we’d expect goals from the hosts here, it’s difficult to pick out a particular goalscorer. None of their squad have been in flying form, with Raheem Sterling their top scorer on five goals.
What’s more, in the last five meetings with Burnley they’ve had 12 different goalscorers as well as an own goal, so they all have a good chance of getting on the scoresheet.
At the prices, Ferran Torres holds the best value for us. He’s his side’s second top scorer this year and managed to get on the scoresheet in the League Cup fixture earlier in the season.
