This Premier League season Manchester City have reigned absolutely supreme, in the process setting a new all-time Premier League win streak of 15 consecutive games.
Perhaps even more astounding, their current points tally is three points better than anyone else has ever managed in the top tier of English football at this stage and that of the final points tally managed by last season’s eighth placed team at the end of the season.
After grinding out four successive 2-1 victories, with the last of those a potentially season defining win against arch rivals United, they returned to normal service in the week smashing four past a struggling Swansea side.
We’ve no doubt they’ll have one eye on the all-time winning streak across all of Europe’s top leagues that currently stands at 19, as the Premier League title looks all but wrapped up this Christmas. Bayern Munich currently hold that record from 2014, when none other than City manager, Pep Guardiola was at the helm.
If they are to build on this record, they’ll need to be on top form on Saturday against a Spurs side that have been a bogey team for City in recent years. The Sky Blues haven’t won in their last four games against Spurs, including three defeats – and at home they haven’t beaten Spurs since 2014.
With these successes fresh in the memories of the Spurs players, they’ll hope to use this combined with the confidence gained from two wins on the bounce, after a woeful November, to solidify their top four spot in the league with a win.
With a 5-1 demolition of Stoke the highlight of those last two wins in the league, the in-form Son Heung-min could be worth a punt to score anytime at Premier League betting odds of 11/5. He helped Spurs come back from 2-0 down to rescue a point in this fixture during last season’s Premier League campaign, and is on a tidy scoring run of four consecutive games across competitions.
Aside from Son, it’s also hard to look past the talent of Harry Kane as a potential party spoiler at the Etihad. With a brace against Stoke last weekend, he now stands just three goals shy of Alan Shearer’s long-standing record for the most Premier League goals in a calendar year, with 33 to his name in 2017.
Despite Kane’s clinical touch in-front of goal, we can’t see past anything but a City win, and it could be David Silva that once again gives his manager reason to cheer this Christmas. At Premier League odds of 23/10 to score anytime, the man who has scored in each of his last three Premier League games is hard to look past.
For a team that has averaged over three goals a game in the league and scored 15 more goals than the next highest scoring team in this year’s competition, they’ll be the overwhelming favourites in this one, at Premier League betting odds of 8/15 to take home all three points.
