United appeared to be heading towards crisis mode having drawn two of three unbeaten games, though a win over a dangerous Leicester side at Old Trafford has alleviated some of the pressure and they should easily rack up another win here.
Astana have gone W3-D2-L4 over their past nine away matches since late May, easily being dispatched by a two-goal margin versus the best teams they’ve travelled to over this period – CFR Cluj and BATE Borisov.
The last time Man Utd competed in the Europa League they went on to win it in 2016/17. The group stages that season saw them rack up a 9-1 aggregate victory over Zorya Luhansk, Fenerbahce and Feyenoord, with at least two of those teams vastly superior to the side from Kazakhstan.
United Injury Concerns
However, we wouldn’t necessarily expect the Red Devils to pummel their opponents as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will no doubt heavily rotate his side given the disparity between the two teams, especially given various injuries and his clear determination to give youth a chance.
Defenders Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Diogo Dalot, midfielders Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, as well as forward Anthony Martial make for a lengthy injury list.
However, only three or possibly at a stretch four of those players realistically make the cut for a first choice team at Old Trafford, so it’s hardly as though the hosts will take to the field devoid of any quality.

Including qualifiers and play-off matches, all five of Astana’s defeats in Europe League last term saw them fail to score, with each of these finishing 1-0 or 2-0.
Given Man Utd have kept a clean sheet in all but one of their seven victories since the start of pre-season, the win to nil against limited opponents appears a safe bet, while we’d expect the hosts to at least register twice.
Rashford To Score Anytime
The likes of Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner might all expect to feature in this clash, though undoubtedly there will be some senior players involved to help guide the youngsters.
Rashford is no old timer himself, but with Romelu Lukaku having departed this summer and Anthony Martial unavailable, the 21-year-old should find himself leading the line. The England international has three goals in five appearances so this season, with each of these coming at Old Trafford, so looks well placed to deliver for the hosts.
