City are coasting the group having won three of four unbeaten matches to date, with the stalemate coming in their last Champions League outing away at Atalanta. That’s especially the case given Shakhtar aren’t used to keeping clean sheets on their travels in Europe. 16 away trips since 2016/17 have yielded just two shutouts, both of which came in the Europa League.

Since the start of last season alone, they’ve conceded 18 times across six matches, including three times in their last such game at Dinamo Zagreb as well as four when visiting Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League last term.

Moreover, Shakhtar have registered 18 goals in 12 European outings since the start of last season and consequently, two thirds of these games saw at least four goals, including five of six on the road.
City have faced well-documented problems finding the right balance at centre-back since key man Aymeric Laporte was sidelined through injury.
The Frenchman played in two of those three head-to-heads with Shakhtar since the start of last season, but Pep Guardiola’s side are now five games without keeping an opposition attack at bay.
That includes two encounters at home to a low-scoring Southampton team, and so the home win and both teams to score appears the best way to get the favourites onside.

Sergio Aguero would probably have been given the night off in any case owing to rotation but having picked up an injury against Chelsea at the weekend, it’s a certainty that back-up Gabriel Jesus will be handed an opportunity to impress.
The Brazilian already has four goals in his past two appearances against the Ukrainian outfit, including a hat-trick in this fixture last term, though he’s been somewhat hit and miss for his club side when given the chance.
The bookies appear to have recognized City’s potential to rack up a big score, and with a multitude of players at relatively short prices, none of their likely goalscorers provide any real value at the odds and so it’s a market best avoided on this occasion.
