Recent Form

Liverpool answered a lot of questions in their match against Leicester on Sunday night. With the majority of their backline missing they managed to overcome league leaders Leicester 3-0, while they also had captain Jordan Henderson missing as well as Mohammed Salah, which is worrying signs for the rest of the Premier League.

The Reds have also been in tremendous form on the European front, achieving wins to nil over both Ajax and Atalanta themselves in the fist round of fixtures, and are now just one of two side who are yet to concede in this year’s Champions League.

We’d usually be cautious about that record continuing here, though Atalanta haven’t been their usual prolific selves of late.

Liverpool To Beat Atalanta

Only Man City and Bayern Munich scored more goals than Atalanta in Europe’s top five leagues last season, and they also looked to carry that through this year scoring four or more goals in four of their first five games of the season in all competitions.

However, they’ve slightly gone off the boil recently, though they’ve scored just six goals in as many games since that run, including just one in their last three, which is not the kind of goalscoring form you want to take into a match at Anfield.

It’s a wonder then why the hosts are as long as they are to win this match. Atalanta always pose a threat up top, though it’s like Luis Muriel will miss out again here while David Zapata is out of form having not scored in nearly a month.

It’s now just two wins in eight for the Italian side and we can’t envisage an upset here considering that, and the home win presents enough value on its own.

Diego Jota To Score Anytime

The Reds won the reverse fixture by a very convincing 5-0 scoreline, with Diogo Jota netting himself his first Liverpool hat-trick that day.

This weekend the Portuguese became the first Liverpool player to score in each of his first four home league games, as he seems to have fitted in seamlessly.

He’s odds against to score here and without Salah available, there’s no reason to suggest he won’t start so looks a good price to get on the scoresheet.

It’s tempting to back the win to nil also, even without a full-strength Liverpool backline. James Milner and Fabinho slotted in wonderfully against the Foxes, though of their sixteen games this year Jurgen Klopp’s men have only kept the opposition at bay on six occasions, and with them failing to register back-to-back clean sheets yet this season, we’re not confident in getting behind that outcome against an Atalanta team that has proven in the past they can create chances.
