Liverpool looked to have had a bright start to their midweek fixture at the Etihad, with Mo Salah hitting the woodwork and having another chance to break the deadlock.
However, they were made to pay as Man City ended up putting four goals past them, though that result will only bruise the Reds’ ego with nothing in particular riding on the game, as they were crowned champions of England the week prior to that last fixture.
They’ll certainly fancy their chances more this weekend though, facing a Villa outfit that are on a run of seven defeats from their last nine winless outings across all competitions and have really struggled on the road this term too.
Only Norwich have picked up fewer points than them as they’ve gone W2-D3-L11 from 16 trips, including a mere four defeats from five winless games against the current top six.
Even that sole point came at Old Trafford in the midst of one of Man Utd’s worst winless runs across all tournaments this term.
Liverpool To Win And Both Teams To Score
It has been well documented that Liverpool’s form have dipped, currently enduring a run of just three wins from their last nine matches both domestically and in Europe since mid-February, as they lost five of those when including extra time.
It should be noted though, that they did beat all but one of the weaker sides they faced over that period in West Ham (3-2), Bournemouth (2-1) and Palace (4-0), as only Watford caused a major upset at Vicarage Road.
In fact, only once did they fail to win at Anfield over that nine-game period and that was when Atletico Madrid managed a freak extra time comeback.
In the league alone this term they’ve won 16 straight matches here and it’s hardly as if the Villains are going to be the ones to upset that.
Jurgen Klopp’s men conceded in all but six of those victories though, and off the back of their midweek hammering, as well as the fact the visitors have scored in three of their last four trips to top-six teams, we’d expect them to sneak a consolation strike.
Mo Salah To Score Anytime
Salah can count himself unlucky he didn’t add to his tally of 17 league goals last time out, but most of his strikes tend to come at Anfield anyway.
Indeed, 88% of them have come here as he’s now netted seven goals from his last six here, scoring in each of them and we’d be very surprised if he wasn’t to be amongst the goals.
