After stringing together three consecutive victories as they registered clean sheets in each, Liverpool were outclassed in Madrid.
The centre-back partnership of Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak floundered against elite level opposition, while a poor mistake from Trent Alexander-Arnold contributed to a disappointing night.
However, Villa aren't up to Real Madrid's level and the Red's recent displays have shown enough to suggest their defence won't completely crumble here.
Indeed, they’ve worked their way back into top-four contention as they now sit just two points adrift of Chelsea and three from the Hammers, so their season could yet be partly salvaged.
That's especially the case with Jack Grealish sustaining a setback on the comeback trail and Aston Villa's form without their talisman invariably leads them to suffer.

Villa are only W2-D1-L6 against the eight teams above them, losing each of the past five, though only three of the nine games saw them go down by a two-goal margin.
They also managed to score in seven of the nine games, including their spectacular 7-2 thrashing of Liverpool in the reverse fixture, but this will of course be a different affair.
Indeed, there have been fewer than three goals in seven of the eight games during Liverpool's winless Anfield run.
The exception came when Man City put four past them, while five of the eight saw a maximum of just one strike.
Under 2.5 goals also landed in their Champions League win over Leipzig, while Villa's past five road trips have all seen that bet come in with just five goals across those games.
