Liverpool vs Spurs: Super Sunday - Premier League Betting Preview

Despite back-to-back 1-1 away draws in recent weeks against struggling Southampton and League Two side, Newport, Spurs have had a week to remember, pulling off a fantastic 2-0 win at Wembley against Jose Mourinho’s United side in mid-week.

If that game was important in terms of their top four credentials however, Sunday’s trip to Anfield is arguably even more so, as Spurs sit just two points behind Jurgen Klopp’s men in the Premier League table.

Against United, it was the Spurs midfield partnership of Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele that ran the show, with astonishing pass completion rates of 93% and 95% respectively.

Throw incoming transfer Lucas Moura into the mix and Spurs will hope they can run the midfield, to help them to just a second win in their last 19 attempts at Anfield.

Although Liverpool themselves may have recent defeats at the hands of relegation candidates Swansea and West Brom playing on their mind still, they will take confidence from a 3-0 drubbing of Huddersfield in mid-week.

Undefeated in their last 14 home Premier League matches, they will come up against a fierce Spurs attack on a nine-game unbeaten run - in particular, Harry Kane will be determined to find the back of the net.

As the Premier League’s top scorer this season, he has scored six in his last five appearances in all competitions. Add to that an Anfield record that has seen him score two goals in three appearances, and he looks a tasty proposition at Premier League betting odds of 10/11 to score anytime.

Alongside Kane, Son will also be keen to play his part in elevating his team up into the Champions League places. Both were on the scoresheet at Wembley earlier in the season as Spurs were utterly dominant in a 4-1 win against the Reds.

That being said, although the pair have scored a whopping 29 goals between them in the league this season, Liverpool’s Salah and Firmino have combined to go one better at 30. Between them, they also have an incredible record of six goals in their last four games.

With this in mind, we expect somewhat of a goal fest on Sunday. The identical records of Kane and Salah in this year’s Premier League, both of which have a goal every 98 minutes to their name, would certainly suggest that.

Liverpool will hope they can trump this battle having scored at least two goals in seven of their last eight Premier League games, but we think a more resolute Spurs defence could prove the difference.

Spurs didn’t concede more than one goal throughout a gridlocked January and have only lost once since November.

That defeat at the hands of runaway league leaders Manchester City, football betting odds of 17/4 for a Spurs win and both sides to score looks an enticing prospect.
