Haaland Hype
There has been a lot of hype surrounding the ability of this Salzburg outfit and in particular that of Erling Haaland.
The 19-year-old scored a hat-trick on his Champions League debut as they recorded a 6-2 victory over Genk, taking his tally for the season to 17 goals from nine starts across all competitions, as he also has five assists.
However, the Norwegian striker has been suffering from illness for the last week and faces a race against time to be fit for this trip to Anfield.
Liverpool Recent Form
Jurgen Klopp’s charges have been absolutely relentless so far this season, winning eight of 10 matches as the exceptions saw them draw with Chelsea in the UEFA Supercup before winning on penalties, while they went down to Napoli a fortnight ago.
That sole defeat came on the road at Stadio San Paolo, which is a tough place to visit and we won’t read too much into that one, especially since they’re back at Anfield for this encounter.
They’ll know the importance of the maximum points this Wednesday though, as they need to close the gap to both Napoli and this Austrian side.

Salzburg Recent Form
The visitors have won an outstanding 10 of 12 unbeaten matches across all competitions so far this term.
However, aside from their clash with Genk these have all come against weaker teams domestically, so it’s hard to gauge their ability from those results.
In fact, this is the first time this century they’ve even made it into the group stages of this tournament, but given the way they’ve been dispatching teams, Klopp will no doubt be cautious.
Interestingly though, the two times Jesse Marsch’s men have failed to earn the full three points this term have come on the road, both of which were in their two most recent trips, although it should be noted that Haaland didn’t start either of those.
Their Europa League exploits in the last couple of seasons also suggest home form is key for them, as they won knockout matches hosting Lazio, Marseille, Club Brugge and Napoli, while losing the away legs in each of those ties.
They did beat Dortmund on the road, but that appears to be the exception and Liverpool on current form should feel confident of extracting maximum points.

However, the Reds are yet to keep a clean sheet at Anfield this term from three matches as Norwich, Arsenal and even Newcastle have all registered on the scoreboard.
That misfiring defence shouldn’t be a problem for them though, seeing as they’ve won five of six unbeaten Champions League group stage outings here since 2017/18, plundering as many as 20 goals.
In fact, this looks set to be a high-scoring affair given all but one of those matches saw the Over 2.5 Goals market come in. Meanwhile, Salzburg are averaging 4.5 goals per game for their side alone from their 12 matches this term, with a total goals of 67 goals being plundered across them for both teams combined.

Given the scoring nature that is likely to unfold we have to get behind a Liverpool player. It’s Mo Salah that takes our interest at the prices seeing as he’s netted four goals from their three games at this stadium so far this term.
In the Champions League alone, he’s scored in seven of his 10 starts at Anfield since arriving ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, scoring nine times in total.
