Recent Form

Liverpool secured their 13th straight Premier League victory against Burnley prior to the international break and they’ll be hoping that the European qualifiers don’t disrupt their momentum.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have had a mixed bag of results as their victory at Spurs at the end of August would’ve even surprised their manager Steve Bruce, while their only other point came hosting rock-bottom Watford, who have since fired Javi Gracia.

Klopp Expected To Select A Strong Side

Jurgen Klopp will be happy his side have the early start this Saturday as they kick off the defence of their Champions League title on Tuesday night at Napoli, before travelling to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

That is a huge nine days of football for them, although they’ll feel slightly relieved this time around to not have two other top class opponents in their European group like last year when pitted against both PSG and Napoli, as they’ll back themselves versus either Genk or Salzburg if things do go wrong.

With that in mind, we’re expecting them to put out a pretty strong side for this encounter and the manger will be hoping no unrest remains in the ranks between Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

Liverpool Halftime/Fulltime

It is a slightly odd situation Bruce finds himself in for this clash, with both first-choice wingers Allan Saint-Maximin and Matt Richie still out, making it hard to see where their creativity is going to come from.

Indeed, Joelinton’s goal was crucial in their victory over the Lilywhites, but he hasn’t added any more and having lost 12 of their 14 matches against the ‘Big Six’ since the start of last season, including all six on their travels last season, it looks set to be a tough afternoon in Merseyside.

Indeed, they conceded the first of the game in 12 of those 14 too, as they also failed to strike in five of the last seven of those defeats, and so this could well be over before the half-time whistle.

Liverpool To Win To Nil

The Reds have netted eight of their 12 goals thus far in the opening 45 minutes, while since the start of last season they’ve been ahead at both half-time and full-time in 15 of their 21 unbeaten fixtures at Anfield, with the exceptions coming against Man City, Everton, Man Utd, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Chelsea.

In fact, they won to nil in 11 of those fixtures too and having got their first clean sheet of the season against the Clarets last time out, they look set to continue that way.

They contained Sean Dyche’s men to just two shots on target throughout the whole 90 minutes and, with only the Eagles bettering their defensive record after four games so far, the win to nil looks on the cards for the third straight season here against the Magpies, even if Allison Becker is still absent from the line-up.

Sadio Mane To Score First

Given we’re expecting Klopp’s men to strike first we’ll also have a punt on one of his players to duly deliver the opener.

No player has inflicted the opening blow more times for the German manager since late January at Anfield than Mane.

The Senegal international has done so in five his nine starts during that time, netting 11 times across them, and so looks worth a small punt – especially as Salah started all 10 games over this period failed to register the opener in any of these.

Liverpool To Win To Nil At 8/13

0.5 Pts: Sadio Mane To Score First At 3/1

Liverpool W/W – Halftime/Fulltime At 1/2
