TREBLE: LIVERPOOL, SLAVIA AND BARCELONA ALL TO WIN MAX BET £10
Recent Form
These two are becoming familiar foes having also met in the group stages last season, with all three encounters tight affairs as they each saw fewer than three goals, with just four strikes in total across them. Napoli came out winners in both meetings at the Stadium San Paolo, but the Italian outfit are much stronger on home turf and succumbed to defeat when visiting Anfield.
Liverpool’s record here has been utterly phenomenal in recent times, as they’re unbeaten in 46 Premier League outings since May 2017, winning 20 of the last 21. Of course, having reached the past two Champions League finals, their record in Europe hasn’t been bad either.
They’ve won 12 of 15 unbeaten home matches in this tournament since 2017/18, netting 44 goals, including wins by a three-goal margin or greater over the likes of Man City, Roma and Barcelona, as well as other more conservative victories against PSG and Napoli themselves.
The Reds have typically tended to draw first blood early in these home European matches and have led at both half-time and full-time in eight of the past 10 here. That includes those wins over Man City, Roma, PSG, Napoli and Barcelona, so it’s perfectly understandable why the hosts start as such short-priced favourites.
Napoli are there for the taking having drawn five of their last six winless outings. In fact, going back to the start of October they’re only W2-D7-L1, with their two victories coming over Hellas Verona and Salzburg.
Such form has left them 15 points adrift of Juventus domestically as they’re enduring a torrid time, which has also been the case off the field, following a squad mutiny during the recent international break that has soured relationships between the fans, the board and the players.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side haven’t played with any spark or conviction recently, while the 60-year-old seems insistent on persevering with a 4-4-2 formation, which has left his team light on numbers in the centre of the park.
That’s created an obvious weakness defending counter-attacks, which could be a major issue for them. Liverpool’s high-energy midfield and quick transitions from back to front make that route a principal threat of theirs, so the omens aren’t at all positive for the Italians.
Salah Fit, Insigne Out
Mo Salah is fit and expected to start, though even if he’s not risked given Liverpool’s demanding schedule, Klopp has all his other key players available to him, with Joel Matip the only other regular starter who will miss out.
A win here will guarantee the Reds top spot in the group, thus rendering a potentially tricky encounter away to Salzburg on the final day meaningless, and it’s difficult to see how they’ll be stopped given the respective form of the two sides here.
Napoli will be without their star attacker as captain Lorenzo Insigne has missed out on the travelling squad with an elbow injury.
He’s proven a thorn in Liverpool’s side with the winner in Naples last season, as well as registering on the scoreboard against them in pre-season, while the visitors will also see their firepower reduced as the injury prone Arkadiusz Milik has failed to make the cut.
Liverpool/Liverpool HT/FT
Up against Liverpool, Inter, Milan, Roma, Arsenal and Juventus – the best teams Napoli have faced on the road in nearly 12 months now – Ancelotti’s side have gone just W1-D2-L6.
They trailed at both half-time and full-time in all but one of those defeats, and on current form you have to fear for their prospects.
Liverpool/Liverpool HT/FT At 11/10
