LIVERPOOL V ARSENAL ODDS HERE!
Both Sides Off To Winning Starts
These are the only two sides to make perfect starts to their campaign, though greater challenges lie in wait with neither yet to face anyone that finished higher than 13th in last seasons’ Premier League.
Arsenal have produced narrow victories by one-goal margins over both Newcastle and Burnley, courtesy of second-half Aubameyang strikes, ensuring back-to-back victories in their opening two games for the first time since beating both Everton and Portsmouth in 2009/10.
Meanwhile, Liverpool didn’t take long to get into their stride as they took new boys Norwich to the cleaners, before being made to sweat by Southampton last weekend.
Arsenal Will Attack In The Absence Of Allisson
Adrian managed to recover from his freak injury scare to start against the Saints following his heroics in the UEFA Super Cup final, but while he made some smart stops on the south coast, he was most definitely at fault for the goal Liverpool conceded and Jurgen Klopp must be counting the days until first choice keeper Alisson returns and calms nerves.
Arsenal will fancy their chances of penetrating a backline that has appeared flustered compared to last year’s stellar efforts so far, despite a dismal record when travelling to ‘Big Six’ sides, having netted in each of their last six such games since April 2018.
Liverpool To Win And Both Teams To Score
The Gunners have often struggled in big fixtures and especially away from home, with their last victory when visiting a ‘Big Six’ side coming over Man City way back in January 2015.
The past three seasons have yielded 11 defeats from 15 winless matches, as Anfield has proven the most harrowing place for them over this period as they’ve lost all three there by a combined score of 12-2.
Klopp is yet to lose to Arsenal since pitching up on Merseyside, winning four of seven clashes, with this fixture throwing up plenty of entertainment for the neutral observer. Both teams have scored in six of the seven head-to-heads, while six of them also saw a minimum of four goals, as Liverpool have bagged at least three strikes in each of the four games at Anfield.
Goalscorer Markets To Consider
Aubameyang is the clear favourite according to the odds amongst Arsenal’s players to register on the board. However, despite his hot streak that’s seen him net five times in as many starts going back into pre-season, including efforts against Real Madrid, Lyon and Barcelona, we wouldn’t be so confident of his chances.
Zinedine Zidane’s side possess a questionable backline that shipped seven times against city rivals Atletico a few days later, Lyon don’t tend to keep too many clean sheets, while Barca lost their opening La Liga encounter as they’re struggling to find the right balance in their team without the injured Lionel Messi while incorporating new signing Antoine Griezmann. It can’t be ignored that only three of Aubameyang’s 34 Premier League goals have come against ‘Big Six’ sides and each of those came at the Emirates.
Instead, it’s last years’ fellow Golden Boot winners Mo Salah and Sadio Mane that interest us in the goalscorers markets. They should benefit from the absences of Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney, who will surely be Arsenal’s first choice full-backs when they return from injuries in early October, as the Gunners appear lightweight in those areas at present.
Salah has one goal to his name this season after netting against Norwich, but Mane is in excellent form with three goals in his past two matches in all competitions and was sensational at Anfield last term. He bagged 18 of his 22 goals there, including 13 from Liverpool’s final 10 outings, while he’s scored four times in six league matches versus Arsenal for the Merseysiders, including all three at Anfield.
