With Atletico pulling out clear at the top, both Real and Barca need to start making up ground after dropping points in the early stage of the season.
The hosts have drawn their last two games against Real Valladolid and Villarreal, but while Gareth Bale – who has started the season with a point to prove – won’t be available following his sending off against the latter, Zinedine Zidane has others returning to the fold following the international break.
Marco Asensio of course remains a long-term absentee and Isco remains sidelined, but Eden Hazard, Rodrygo and James Rodriguez have all returned to training to help out in the final third.

Still, Real only possess two clean sheets from their last nine league outings at the Bernabeu, as one of those came against a Celta Vigo side shorn of talisman Iago Aspas, while pre-season underlined their failings in that department and particularly when they allowed bitter city rivals Atletico to bag seven strikes in New Jersey.
Levante managed 59 goals last term as only Barca, Real and Sevilla plundered more, though by the same token only rock-bottom Rayo Vallecano shipped more goals. They’ve made a solid start to the season and are actually one point and one place above Madrid in the table, so we can see them troubling the hosts’ fragile backline.
Both teams have scored in all four encounters between these two sides since Levante returned to the top flight, though Real on
ly managed to emerge victorious in one (by a one-goal margin) as they drew and lost their clashes at the Bernabeu.
Moreover, Levante only went down by 1-0 scorelines away at Barca and Atletico last term as they’ve shown an ability to compete.

Paco Lopez’s men could also benefit from some possible rotation as Zidane looks to the week ahead, with a trip to PSG midweek followed by another away day on Sunday to Sevilla – where Madrid haven’t achieved good results in recent years.
Key defensive midfielder Casemiro is one of very few players guaranteed a starting spot these days, but with Brazil’s last fixture of the international break in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Los Angeles, he may be excused from participation here.
Meanwhile, Luka Modric isn’t getting any younger at 34 and played the full 90 minutes in both of Croatia’s games this break, so it’s becoming increasingly obvious why Zidane wanted to add the physically powerful Paul Pogba during the summer.
