Recent Form
After what was a thrilling display in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, these two teams are set to set to take on each other again in the league. A very late equaliser from Takumi Minamino sent the game to penalties after Leicester had been leading since the ninth minute of the game.
Sadly it wasn’t the foxes night on spot kicks with Ryan Bertrand missing the first sudden-death penalty which meant that the man on form Diogo Jota could put away for the win, and he did just that.
Jota has been playing extremely well since Roberto Firmino suffered an injury, he stepped up to the plate and has made sure he can't be dropped by scoring goal after goal.
Leicester are injury ridden at the moment with potentially ten players not fit to start the next game which includes important defensive players like Jonny Evans and Ricardo Pereira who are new additions to the list and James Justin and Wesley Fofana who are both serving long term injuries.
It remains to be seen if the key players like Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk, Curtis Jones and Thiago Alcantara will make it back in time for this game, they all returned positive Covid tests before the Newcastle game so some of them may be back but it will be very close.
Compared to the League Cup side we saw the other day, the Reds will field their strongest team possible so having those four out alone is a big cost to them.
Andrew Robertson and Nat Phillips will miss this game as well, with the former absolutely integral for them this season so that could be a huge loss.
Over 3.5 Goals
Whenever these two teams play one another there seems to be a big theme of goals, since the start of the 2016/17 season ten out of the last twelve games have seen three or more goals scored, with the last five across all competitions seeing ‘overs’ land.
To add to this, seven out of the Foxes last eight games across all competitions have had four or more goals scored and 14 of Liverpool’s 20 games have had the same outcome.
Liverpool will be looking to close the gap on Manchester City after their rivals put six on Leicester on Boxing Day, while they'll also want to put some distance between themselves and third placed Chelsea, so a win here is absolutely imperative.
Leicester won’t back down easily especially after losing this fixture in the League Cup the other day it will add a little bit of spice to the game.
PREDICTION:
OVER 3.5 GOALS
