Recent Form

The transfer window is ticking along and Newcastle are yet to address a glaring concern at centre-back, though will hope to have landed Sevilla’s Diego Carlos by the time this game comes around.

So far, Kieran Tripper and Chris Wood are the only new arrivals, but while both provide Premier League experience and can be expected to roll up their sleeves for a relegation scrap, the lack of goals for the latter this season has to be a worry as Eddie Howe seeks to increase his side’s output.

The Magpies missed a golden opportunity hosting main relegation rivals Watford last time out, conceding a late equalizer at St. James’ Park to deny them just a second win of the season.

It does leave them unbeaten in two league appearances as they also took a point off a lacklustre Man Utd, but these stalemates sandwiched a sorry FA Cup exit to Cambridge Utd, while their previous three games saw them concede 11 times when taking on Leicester, Liverpool and Man City.

Of course, those sides enjoy positions in the top half of the table and Newcastle have been far more competitive against the lower half of the division. They’re an even W1-D7-L1 in such fixtures this term, with all seven stalemates seeing both teams on the scoreboard as five of them finished 1-1.

Draw And Both Teams To Score

Given the Saudi-owned club have shipped 43 goals and registered just a solitary clean sheet across their 20 games versus anyone this term, coming at home to low-scoring Burnley, it will take more reinforcements at the back than those of Trippier and Diego Carlos to stem the tide.

Leeds aren’t exactly watertight at the back themselves having conceded 39 times, with only Newcastle and Norwich holding worse defensive records. They’ve let in at least two goals in six of their last seven in all competitions, with the exception when hosting Burnley as they conceded just the once.

They have endured a tough run of fixtures with this spell including clashes with Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, as well as West Ham twice, though they’ve still only kept two clean sheets from nine encounters with bottom-half sides this term.

Both teams have scored in all three head-to-heads since Leeds were promoted, with Leeds winning 5-2 at home and 2-1 away last term, while the two played out a 1-1 draw earlier this term.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men were however more impressive last season and have only won three of seven tussles with teams in the bottom seven of the table, even if they do remain unbeaten.

This includes six that saw both sides find the net, including four score-draws. Moreover, both teams have scored in 13 of Newcastle’s past 18 league games, as aside from the clean sheet against Burnley, they failed to register in defeats to Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester and Man City.

PREDICTION:

DRAW AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
