All three promoted sides suffered opening day losses but Leeds alone earned plenty of plaudits. Whereas Fulham were soundly beaten 3-0 hosting Arsenal, Marcelo Bielsa’s men pushed champions Liverpool all the way, equalizing three times before a clumsy challenge in the box allowed the Reds to steal all three points late in the game.
Leeds have since gone down on penalties to Hull City, who were relegated from the Championship last term, though Bielsa ringed the changes with all 11 players switched. Meanwhile, Fulham took a 1-0 win over another League One outfit in Ipswich, with Scott Parker also making widespread changes with just two players retaining their starting spots.
The hosts might find the physical demands of Bielsa’s tactics catch up with them later in the season, but right now they look set to thrill at every opportunity. They may have benefited from a casual moment by Virgil van Dijk for one of their goals at Anfield, but there was real quality to their forward play and it’s virtually impossible to see Fulham registering a clean sheet here.
Leeds To Win To Nil
The Cottagers conceded 81 times in their last top-flight campaign, while back in the Championship they held the worse defensive record amongst the breakaway top four – shipping 13 more than Leeds.
Their output also paled in comparison with the top three finishers and they’re going to be heavily reliant upon Aleksandar Mitrovic for goals.
The Serbian international bagged his 50th in 102 games for the club midweek, but dangerous as he is, it’s not quite the same as having an in-form Mo Salah bearing down upon your defence.
40 of Fulham’s 64 goals last season came at Craven Cottage, and given they lost 3-0 at Elland Road when these two met last in late June (a game that Mitrovic started), we wouldn’t be confident of the visitors finding the net.
In fact, Leeds conceded just the solitary strike across their final eight home games in the Championship, drawing 1-1 on that occasion as they won to nil in all the others.
1-0, 2-0, 2-1 Leeds Win (Multibet Exact Score
Fulham’s away games were typically low scoring affairs last season. Including their play-off semi-final with Cardiff, 17 of 24 matches saw fewer than three goals, as the Cottagers only scored more than twice on two occasions, but by the same token conceded more than twice just two times.
Four of their five defeats finished either 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1, so the multibet exact score provides a good option.
1-0, 2-0, 2-1 Leeds Win (Multibet Exact Score) At 13/8
