Top Of The Table Clash
This looks set to be an absolute thriller with both sides neck and neck at the head of the table having both won four of their five unbeaten matches.
It isn’t surprising to see Leeds at the top seeing as they started as favourites to lift the title, but 12 teams were at a shorter price than the Swans, which is now just three, as they’ve been exceptional thus far under new manager Steve Cooper.
Swansea In Great Form
The Welsh outfit have embraced the new man in the dugout’s attractive free-flowing playing style. The best examples of that approach have come in their last two outings as they’ve hammered Cambridge Utd 6-0 in the League Cup and Birmingham 3-0 in the Championship, having had 61% and 74% of the possession in those outings respectively.
However, although under different management now, it’s hard to ignore their performances last season against the top six outfits, where they went W2-D2-L8 from their 12 such matches. One thing they did manage though was to keep the game within touching distance, as only two of their defeats were by more than a single strike, while they also hit the back of the net in eight.
Both Teams To Score
Marcelo Bielsa’s charges have conceded a league best of just two strikes so far, producing clean sheets in each of their last three, though these shutouts did come against Wigan, Brentford and Stoke, who are all currently down in the bottom six of the table.
It’s hard to pin down the ability of their opponents for this one, but if we look at the Whites’ record against top-half teams last term then we can see that they went W10-D7-L5 across their 22 such matches, which is nothing exceptional.
Meanwhile, if we look at that on home turf alone it reads W5-D4-L2, as they lost to the two sides that finished ahead of them – Norwich and Sheffield Utd. Interestingly, their two results at Elland Road this season have produced fairly close encounters as they had a 1-1 stalemate with Forest and grinded out a 1-0 victory over Brentford.
Swansea +2 Handicap
If anyone is to break down this resolute Leeds defence you’d imagine Swansea are going to be the team to do it. The visitors are currently highest scorers in the Championship, while Borja Baston alone has already plundered five goals as he leads the way for the Golden Boot.
Moreover, each of the two meetings between these sides last term resulted in both teams finding the net, drawing 2-2 at Liberty Stadium before Bielsa’s men edged out the reverse fixture 2-1. With like the look of that market, but we’ll also have a punt on the Swans on the handicap to keep things close, if not surprise a few people.
