Real Madrid v Osasuna
One point from two games saw Real Madrid slip off top spot, though a confidence boosting win away at bitter rivals Barcelona at the weekend has put control back into their hands and although they still sit second, a point behind Real Sociedad, they do have a game in hand.
Osusuna won’t roll over easily though and have had a phenomenal start to the season by their standards. They’ve picked up 10 points from their last 12 available and currently sit sixth in the table, and a victory here would see them leapfrog Los Blancos. However, they haven’t managed a single victory over the Spanish giants in any of their last 14 meetings going back to January 2011, losing each of their last seven away head-to-heads by at least two clear goals.
That said, this is the most capable Osasuna side in recent memory and they head into this with a perfect away record with four wins from four, they would also have made it four wins in succession at the weekend when they played Granada had they not been reduced to 10 and conceded in the dying moments. The visitors are extremely tricky to beat, and we’d expect them to keep this close.

Levante v Atletico Madrid
Despite being known as an imperious home side, Atletico actually have a better away record this year, winning three of their four such outings, though a defeat on the road to Alaves last time out highlighted some chinks in the armour.
However, we wouldn’t expect Atletico to come unstuck like that again, especially against a side still looking for their first win of the season. Levante currently sit second bottom in the table courtesy of their four draws from their opening five matches, though they’ve come unstuck recently with four defeats from their subsequent five and will need to find something out of nothing to get a result against Diego Simeone’s men here.
The hosts haven’t been abysmal at home though, losing just the once and taking draws from Real Madrid and seventh placed Rayo Vallecano, though they’ve lacked for output, drawing a blank in four of their last five games. Despite Sevilla, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal all conceding less than Atletico so far this season, they still remain one of the best defensive sides in world football, and they should feel confident of holding out their hosts here, especially if they can keep Jose Morales quiet.

Rayo Vallecano v Barcelona
You would have been brave to bet on Rayo Vallecano to be ahead of Barcelona in the table at this point of the season, though it would have reaped the rewards with the promoted side one point ahead of the Catalan giants, albeit having played a game more.
Barcelona are going through some serious struggles at the moment, winning just three of nine matches since the beginning of September across all competitions, while they’re yet to pick up a win on the road this year in any competition, losing back to back away games for the first time since February 2020, and defeat here would be the first time they’ve lost three such games on the bounce since May 2008.
Vallecano have won all four of their home matches this season to make matters worse, though it should be noted all four have come up against sides currently in the bottom-six so we wouldn’t be confident of the outright win based on that. Barca also have a relatively poor W7-D2-L3 record over the past two seasons against promoted sides, and with confidence low, if they are to get the win it shouldn’t be a hefty one, leaving the hosts on the handicap the best option.
