BOOSTED ODDS FOR THE EURO 2020 QUALIFIERS AVAILABLE HERE!
Recent Form
Plucky Kosovo can no longer qualify following their 2-1 defeat away to the Czech Republic on Thursday, nonetheless they’ve demonstrated that they’re no mere pushovers, especially with their performance at Wembley back in September.
England have already topped the group owing to their head-to-head record with the Czech Republic, having beaten them 5-0 at Wembley, and no doubt they’ll be in buoyant mood after the 7-0 humiliation they inflicted upon Montenegro this past week.
That seven-goal haul means that the Three Lions have now scored 34 times in nine outings this calendar year, which is the most since 1982 when they took 15 games to match that tally.
Should England hit five past Kosovo as they did in the reverse fixture, they’ll exceed their record of 38 goals from 1966.
A fast start would certainly help in that regard and in fact, the five they’d already plundered by the 37th minute on Thursday was the quickest they’d reached that number in a game since 1946.
Plenty Of Attacking Quality For England
Gareth Southgate has an abundance of attacking riches at his disposal, with star duo Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling bagging 19 goals between them in the current campaign.
Further, he has the luxury of choosing between hot property Jadon Sancho and a reinvigorated Marcus Rashford to complete his forward line. With Chelsea duo Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi knocking at the door, their prospects going forwards are truly mouth-watering.
Although Kosovo have only lost twice in 19 matches since November 2017, England remain the only elite side they’ve faced over this period. They’ve kept clean sheets on just two occasions from nine outings in 2019 so far, at home to Gibraltar and Montenegro, so England should have what it takes to continue the party this Sunday.
Sterling To Score Anytime
Sterling will be desperate to get in on the act after his effective one-game suspension for an altercation with Joe Gomez, and his last 10 appearances for the national side have yielded 10 goals and a further eight assists.
The only teams to prevent him from netting during this period have been Croatia, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Czech Republic, all of whom are better outfits than Kosovo.
His ability to wriggle through tight spaces can pay dividends against a team that will be happy to frustrate England for as long as possible, while he netted England’s first goal in the reverse fixture and should feel confident of his chances again.
England -2 Handicap
Given England have now scored 33 times in seven qualifiers during the current campaign, including 13 without reply in the last two games, we’re surprised they’re not at a shorter price amongst the various handicaps.
Excluding the slip-up away to the Czech Republic, England have won by a minimum of four clear strikes in all but one of their other six matches, admittedly against Kosovo themselves, but they shot themselves in the foot that day with some awful mistakes at the back.
However, the unsure Michael Keane isn’t in the squad this time around, while Harry Maguire doesn’t usually give away needless penalties, so we’re confident England can put their hosts to the sword.
For those who are too wary of England’s backline to be comfortable backing the -2 handicap, there’s still plenty of scope for getting some value out of this game.
Over 3.5 Goals
The -1 handicap and England/England in the half-time/full-time market offer interesting alternatives, though over 3.5 goals stands out even more.
All but one of England’s seven qualifiers have breached that threshold, and while the visitors’ output in the final third can’t be questioned at this stage, any mishaps at the back would help carry that bet over the line in the unlikely event that the Three Lions can’t manage it on their own.
