Last year’s Champions Mumbai Indians got their title defence off to a losing start when they took on the Chennai Super Kings. That won’t worry them too much though as they last won their season opener back in 2012, and they’ll be looking to build on the positives when they take on the Knight Riders on Wednesday.
Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock started well for Mumbai, before Rohit fell once again to leg spin, while Trent Boult and James Pattinson were doing a lot with the ball early on, taking two wickets in the opening two overs before the dew set in and the Super King fought their way back into the game.
Boult and Pattinson may need to be saved for the death overs though in this clash, with the Knight Riders one of the best death overs sides in the division, with an 11.95 run rate at the death over the last two seasons.
That’s largely down to Dre Russell and Dinesh Karthik and their impeccable strike rate, while Eoin Morgan is only going to enhance that.

Kolkata have also addressed their bowling attack, which only took 56 wickets in 14 matches last season, which is the lowest tally ever for an IPL side.
They’ve made Pat Cummins the most expensive player in the IPL to deal with this situation, and with some games for Australia already under his belt, he should be able to hit the ground running.
This could be another really close contest, though at even money the Knight Riders look worth a punt with Morgan and Cummins added to the side.
