Rangers keep marching on with their 1-0 win over Lech Poznan placing them on maximum points in Group D before of a double header with Benfica.
The clean sheet leaves them with a ridiculous defensive record this term as they’ve managed the feat in 14 of 18 matches since the season started in August now, while they’ve shipped just five goals in total as two of those were inflicted by Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray in Europe.
Indeed, prior to Thursday the Gers had won 2-0 four games on the bounce, including an Old Firm derby away at Celtic as they once again outplayed their Glaswegian rivals.
In the league alone, they’ve racked up 10 wins from 12 matches this season, including nine victories with accompanying clean sheets, which leaves us with an inevitable feeling about this one.
Rangers To Win To Nil
In fact, Killie have already gone down 2-0 to Rangers this term back in August at Ibrox, while in their two league defeats since that match, they’ve failed to score against third and fourth-placed Hibs and Aberdeen respectively in 1-0 losses.
They’re a decent W4-D2-L5 for the season so far, but it’s worth noting that three of their four victories have come over teams currently residing in the bottom four of the table.
Given Killie’s struggles against the top sides this term, combined with Rangers’ momentum and confidence, there only appears one winner here.
Rangers To Win 2-0
Steven Gerrard’s men are a solid W14-D5-L2 away in the league since the start of last season, though only once in 11 trips post-Christmas have they scored more than twice in a single game.
They’ve won five of seven unbeaten trips since March, with four of those victories finishing either 1-0 or 2-0, and those very much look the likely outcomes here.
Second-half substitutes Ryan Jack and Alfredo Morelos will need slight knocks from Thursday assessed ahead of the weekend, but both are expected to be available to Gerrard here.
His only other concern is long-term absentee Nikola Katic, who suffered a torn ACL in pre-season and won’t be back for months, though it’s not like the backline has missed his presence.
Meanwhile, Killie’s sole absentee is goalkeeper Jake Eastwood, who has missed all but 45 minutes of the season in any case.
Morelos may or not have to settle for a place on the bench again, but he can certainly influence games from there as he demonstrated midweek.
He’s scored more goals against Killie than any other team, with 11 from 11 tussles, though the majority of those strikes came at Ibrox and at the prices we’d leave the goalscorer market alone with Gerrard possessing various options in his team selection.
