JAPAN V IRELAND ODDS HERE!

Recent Form

Ireland will be hopeful of all but confirming their place in the quarters with victory over hosts Japan on Saturday, which would see them with two wins from their opening two with just Samoa and Russia left to play.

Japan ran out 30-10 winners against the Russians but looked understandably shaky at times as they opened the 2019 World Cup in front of their home crowd.

With opening day nerves out their system, they will be looking to provide a stern test for Joe Schmidt’s men, though the win outright looks a very tall order.

Japan have looked much improved year on year, with five wins from their last six since late November 2018, including convincing victories over Tonga, Fiji and USA, to win the Pacific Nations Cup.

What’s more, of their nine encounters with Six Nations sides since 2016, only twice have they lost by more than 20 points, though it must be noted that both we’re on home soil against this weekend’s opponents Ireland, so the handicap markets don’t look as attractive a proposition as they probably should considering the recent head-to-heads.

High Scoring Affair Expected

Notably, the Cherry Blossoms tend to see high scoring games when the top tier Northern hemisphere sides, largely down to their open, expansive style of rugby.

Indeed, 10 their last 12 such encounters have produced a minimum of 46 points, with their penultimate match against Ireland yielding a whopping 72.

In what could end up a shootout between Scotland and the host nation for second spot in this group, bonus points could be integral in who comes out on top and Japan will be desperate to do what the Scots couldn’t manage and cross the whitewash on four occasions this match.

Kotaro Matsushima To Score Anytime

With tries very much on the cards for both sides, it’s hard to look past Kotaro Matsushima to add to his hattrick against Russia.

The winger is on fire at the moment having scored nine tries in his seven outings since the start of 2018, including touchdowns against Italy, Fiji and South Africa - the best teams they faced in that period - and with his side favouring running rugby, he’ll get plenty of opportunities.

0.5 Pts: Kotaro Matsushima To Score Anytime At 6/4
