Rangnick Squad Reshape

Tactical mastermind Ralf Rangnick has replaced the Norwegian on an interim basis, and will be keen to reshape the squad in his image.

The 63-year-old former RB Leipzig boss is famed for his high-intensity philosophy, with his players expected to press relentlessly throughout matches.

New recruits with plenty of energy and stamina will be high on the agenda then – and central midfield looks to be the area most in need of strengthening.

Midfield Focus

Rangnick is believed to have more than £75million at his disposal as he bids to recruit a dominant presence in the centre of the park.

It will be a challenge for the Red Devils to secure the calibre of candidate they are after in January, though.

England international Declan Rice, 22, is rumoured to be top of the club’s wishlist, but West Ham are unlikely to countenance a sale while they are involved in a battle for Champions League qualification.

That is also likely to be the case for 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund prodigy Jude Bellingham and Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, 26, who have both been strongly linked with a move to Manchester.

A more realistic option could be Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni.

Though the 21-year-old is under contract until 2024, the challenging financial landscape of French football might prompt the Monegasques to consider an offer of over £50million.

The Rouen native isn’t short of suitors though, with Liverpool and Chelsea both reportedly keen on ASM’s No.8.

Even if Manchester United do have to wait until summer to get their man, it would be wise to start clearing the decks at Old Trafford now – to free up more funds for another assault on the transfer market.

Fringe Players To Be Moved On

And there are plenty of fringe players who could move on to pastures new next month.

David de Gea’s sensational form has reduced fellow stopper Dean Henderson’s game time this season, so the former Sheffield United loanee may be keen on becoming a regular starter elsewhere.

Jesse Lingard is another squad member who will be in the shop window, as he enters the final six months of his contract.
