After going down 1-0 after the first test, India have flipped the series on its head with comfortable victories in the second and third test.
The most recent was finished in under two days as criticism over the wicket followed the game, though now the best the visitors can achieve is a series draw going into the final test at the same ground as the last.
The main narrative following the 3rd test and heading into this one is the condition of the wicket, with the home side unsurprisingly the only party not to have at least a few concerns over the pitch.
With this being in the same ground in Ahmedabad, it’s conceivable that the wicket will be fairly similar, though in truth there’s only some extent to which you can blame conditions for your own shortcomings, and England captain Joe Root was one of the first to accept his sides’ poor batting has been the primary cause of their successive defeats in India.
It’s hard to envisage much of a change in the days between these tests in regard to that faulty top order, so on another slow pitch that is tailored to suit the spin bowlers that India have in abundance, they should come through this to win the series 3-1, though at the prices there’s little value in backing that outcome and we’ll look elsewhere for our bet.
Axar Patel Top Indian Bowler
As mentioned, spin is going to be crucial again here and there were none better than Axar Patel in the last match. That was only his second ever test match and to come away with at least a fifer in both innings is incredibly impressive.
Back at the same ground and with little time in-between-matches to lose momentum, he’s a surprising price to be India’s top bowler again, so we’ll get behind him to be instrumental in bringing his side home in this series.
