As expected, India’s depth in batting proved to be the difference in the opener as despite a blistering start to England’s run chase from Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow, their lack of substance showed as they fell from 135 without loss to 176/5 in a period of just over 10 overs, with Ben Stokes and Joss Buttler failing to live up to the billing in particular.
We wouldn’t expect too many changes from either side though here, though the visitors’ approach might just pay off this time around.
India were far more reserved in the opening overs, and if it weren’t for big hitting at the back end by KL Rahul and debutant Krunal Pandya, though they rode their luck a bit throughout and on another day wouldn’t have had the luxury to go for it in those final overs.
England To Beat India
Eoin Morgan has said his side aren’t going to change their approach to this game, and on a wicket that certainly plays into the batman’s hands, we certainly wouldn’t expect them too.
A bit more stability can be expected from both Stokes and Buttler in this match, and that could make the world of difference.
The prices haven’t changed from the first match, and despite defeat, we’d expect England to fight back stronger so still present good value for us.
