Iceland v France Preview And Betting Tips – Euro 2020 Qualifiers Matchday 7

ICELAND V FRANCE ODDS HERE

Recent Form

Didier Deschamps currently has the privilege of managing one of the greatest France sides in recent memory. His team are currently on a run of W43-D10-L6 since their 1-0 defeat away at Albania in June of 2015, during which time they lifted the World Cup, while they’ve carried that form into these Euro qualifiers where they’ve won five of six matches thus far.

On Friday evening they take on Iceland, who sit just three points behind them in the group, though we fully expect that gap to be doubled come the full-time whistle.

The Nordic outfit will battle hard but the disparity in quality should shine through in the end, as it did when France took them apart 5-2 in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

That tournament proved to be a peak for Iceland, as they’ve had to endure the ignominy of some fairly big defeats to the top sides over the past 13 months.

Switzerland took them apart 6-0 in the Nations League as Belgium covered the -1 handicap in both fixtures, while France downed them again – this time by a 4-0 scoreline – in the reverse fixture during the current campaign.

France -1 Handicap

With four wins from six games in this group so far however, Iceland remain in the hunt to qualify. Erik Hamren’s men realistically need a result here though, provided surprise group leaders Turkey see off Albania on home soil, as they would sit six points off the top two.

Unfortunately for Iceland, their visitors have won seven of their last eight matches, with six coming by at least two clear goals, five by a minimum of three, while two finished 4-0.

Although Les Bleus can be unpredictable at times, a characteristic embodied by their 2-0 defeat away to Turkey in the midst of those eight recent matches, we’ll still back them to cover that handicap considering the firepower they retain in their squad, despite the absence of Paul Pogba through injury.

BOOSTED TREBLE: ENGLAND, FRANCE AND TURKEY ALL TO WIN AT 9/4!

Kingsley Coman To Score Anytime

With the array of talent France have at their disposal, the goalscorer market comes into play nicely for this fixture.

Sitting in second place and being only three points clear of Friday’s opponents, we’d assume Deschamps will field his strongest possible side to widen that gap, create some breathing space and gain some momentum before facing off with current group leaders Turkey on Monday.

However, Kylian Mbappe is likely to sit this one out despite being named in the squad, as he’s only just returned from a troublesome hamstring complaint that kept him out of PSG’s clash with Angers at the weekend.

Olivier Giroud has been something of a favourite for Deschamps, despite only scoring five times in his last 21 appearances for the national side and registering a solitary assist, but such a record doesn’t encourage us to get behind him.

That’s especially the case having barely featured for club side Chelsea this term as he hasn’t even been making the matchday squads recently, while Antoine Griezmann has also struggled to find his feet in Barcelona and was benched for their weekend tussle with Sevilla – with the Catalans winning 4-0 in his absence.

In fact, Griezmann has failed to score in his last four for France, even if he did register assists in three of those games, but further down the pecking order its Kingsley Coman that we like the look of.

He should stake a claim with Mbappe in need of rest, while the Bayern man scored three times during the last international break and looks the best value to find the net here.

France -1 Handicap At 21/20

0.5 pts: Kingsley Coman To Score Anytime At 21/10
