Hibs are without a win in 12 matches over 90 minutes since the beginning of August, though they have at least proven competitive with eight of these ending in stalemates, while both teams found the net in nine of them too.
One of those was a 1-1 draw hosting Celtic in late September, during their current six-game unbeaten spell, though that sequence of draws will surely come to an end here. It nearly did on Wednesday night as they salvaged a point with a last gasp equalizer hosting Livingston, while Neil Lennon’s side have been in impressive form since the international break.
The Hoops have won four on the bounce in all comps, including a 6-0 demolition of Ross County and a 4-0 success away to Aberdeen, while they also downed a near full strength Lazio in the Europa League.
Their latest outing on Wednesday hosting St. Mirren finished a more modest 2-0, though they dominated the game and with 24 shots, could easily have won by a greater margin.
Hibernian can at least boast a good recent record against Celtic on home turf at Easter Road. Since December 2017, they’ve only suffered defeat in one of their six clashes, winning two of these, though this semi-final takes place at Hampden Park.
The last time these two sides squared off at this venue, Celtic ran out comfortable 4-2 winners at the exact same stage of this tournament two years ago, and a similar outcome should be in the offing.
Indeed, Celtic have won each of their four cup encounters with Hibs since 2011/12 by an aggregate scoreline of 13-3.
Celtic -1 Handicap
Over 90 minutes, the reigning champions have won 19 of 21 matches in the League Cup since 2014/15, losing just once and keeping a clean sheet in all but three of those victories.
They won by a minimum of two goals in 15 of them as well, which appears a pretty safe bet here. In fact, Hibs have gone down by that margin or more in three of their four defeats this term, including a 6-1 loss away to Rangers at Ibrox, with the exception coming against fellow Edinburgh side Hearts, who have similarly struggled this term.
