Germany suffered a shock defeat last time out against North Macedonia in World Cup qualification and there are certainly questions to be asked as they prepare for the upcoming Euros.
They’ve now registered just three clean sheets in their past 12 appearances, coming against the Czech Republic, Iceland and Romania, so it’s perhaps no surprise that experienced Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has been recalled to the squad.
Hummels isn’t he only one back in the fold with Thomas Muller also returning, as the pair were axed from the national side in late 2018 following disastrous World Cup and Nations League campaigns.
Die Mannschaft won’t be at full strength though, with Man City’s Ilkay Gundogan and the Chelsea contingent of Antonio Rudiger, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz all set to be given the night off after playing in the Champions League final. Still, Joachim Low has plenty of options all over the field, and there should be a reasonably strong team on display regardless.
Denmark will be without Andreas Christensen having also played in that final, with the 25-year-old putting in a superb performance when replacing Thiago Silva after the Brazilian was forced to withdraw from the field.
He might be a little harder to replace as his partnership with captain Simon Kjaer at the heart of defence is important for the Danes, though head coach Kasper Hjulmand has a decent replacement available in Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard.
Germany And Denmark To Draw
The visitors should provide a stern challenge for Germany given how rarely they lose, doing so in just three of 46 appearances over 90 minutes since November 2016.
Even one of those came when fielding a second-string side against Slovakia in 2018 owing to a dispute between the players and the Danish FA, so we’d avoid getting behind their hosts to claim victory here.
Germany And Denmark To Draw 1-1
This spell includes the last encounter between the two sides as they shared a 1-1 draw in June 2017. Up against elite teams Germany, France, Belgium and England, the Danes are an impressive W1-D3-L2 over this period, with both defeats inflicted by FIFA’s number one ranked outfit Belgium. Five of the six games saw fewer than three goals, so a tight encounter should be expected.

Denmark have also opened their World Cup qualification campaign in style with 2-0, 8-0 and 4-0 wins over Israel, Moldova and Austria respectively.
Although encouraging at both ends of the field, they’ll find goals harder to come by even if Germany haven’t been imperious at the back of late.
Still, the Danes have now won eight of their last nine outings, and look well-placed to get something from this encounter.
