There’s been quite a role reversal for these two sides. Germany won the 2014 World Cup, reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016 before being knocked out by hosts France, while they breezed through qualification for the 2018 World Cup with 10 consecutive victories as they plundered 43 goals.
However, the tournament in Russia itself saw them dumped out at the group stages, before relegation beckoned in the Nations League, leading to a throwing out of the old guard. Captain Manuel Neuer and Marco Reus are the only players in the current squad that have reached the age of 30, with 13 of the 19 outfield players selected by long-serving coach Joachim Low 25 or younger.

A lot of their players are hovering in that 27-29 age bracket where a blend of experience and physical prowess can be found, but while they got the better of their bitter rivals in the Nations League, the new-look Die Mannschaft won the most recent contest in March with a 3-2 success in Amsterdam.
You would think a centre-back partnership of recently crowned UEFA player of the year Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt would lead to many a clean sheet, though it hasn’t transpired that way in this entertaining Dutch side.
Mostly that is down to an attacking style, though De Ligt is still young and like all fledgling talents will make a mistake or two, with the recently turned 20-year-old heavily criticized for his weekend performance against Napoli where he was partly culpable for all three goals Juve conceded.

Both teams have found the net in eight of the Netherlands’ last 12 matches now, with three of the last five seeing at least four goals over 90 minutes.
Germany certainly don’t lack for firepower having netted 13 goals from their three qualifiers to date, but their only three clean sheets from the past nine outings have come against Russia, Belarus and Estonia.
The three recent head-to-head encounters between these two sides have averaged four goals per game, so all the signs point towards a cracker in this clash. Indeed, that’s been the case historically as eight of 10 meetings this century have yielded at least three strikes.

Although Germany are without Antonio Rudiger and Leroy Sane, it’s understandable that they’re favourites on home turf, with their damaging defeats in the Nations League coming away in Amsterdam and Paris.
Moreover, the Netherlands have drawn four of six winless matches away from home since May 2018, though the stalemate is more appetizing at the prices. Given six of Germany’s eight draws since June 2017 have seen both teams find the net, as have all nine of the Netherlands’ stalemates going all the way back to March 2015, the score draw looks profitable.
