Fulham remain in the relegation zone, but Scott Parker’s men have significantly reduced the gap over the past five weeks, especially with other teams above faltering.
They’ve lost just once during this spell as they went down 1-0 to Tottenham, a run of seven games, and even that was incredibly harsh as they had a goal ruled out by a highly controversial VAR decision.
Last time out they continued Liverpool’s misery at Anfield as they ran out 1-0 winners, as tight encounters have been the dominant feature in their bid to avoid the drop.
There have been fewer than three goals in a massive 16 of Fulham’s past 18 matches now, with 10 of them ending in stalemates.
In fact, seven of their last eight have seen at least one team or the other fail to score, as under 2.5 goals landed in all eight, while their past four outings have witnessed a combined total of a paltry three goals.
Man City To Win And Over 3.5 Goals
Man City are of course the league’s top scorers, with a convincing 5-2 victory over Southampton last time out seeing them recover from their derby defeat to Man Utd, where their 21-game winning streak was finally put to an end.
Having previously beaten Wolves 4-1 with a trio of late strikes, the Citizens clearly aren’t lacking confidence in front of goal, but they’ve scored more than twice in just two of their past six in all competitions and this may be an occasion where they’re forced to grind out a result.
Seven of Fulham’s nine defeats dating back to October have come by one-goal margins, as even the two exceptions saw them downed by 2-0 scorelines.
One of those was inflicted by Man City at the Etihad, and we’d expect the Cottagers to avoid an embarrassment of any kind here.
All but one of their last 10 defeats have seen fewer than four strikes, and so the away win and under 3.5 goals appeals. Indeed, all but one of Fulham’s 15 encounters with current top-half teams this season have contained a maximum of three goals.
Tom Cairney and Marek Rodak remain sidelined for Fulham, but otherwise the treatment room is empty and Man City are in a similar boat, with even Nathan Ake reportedly now available to Pep Guardiola.
The likes of Joao Cancelo, John Stones, Rodri, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus were all unused substitutes against the Saints and could return to the line-up here, but whichever team Guardiola fields, we’d expect them to get the job done.
Aside from top-half outfits Man Utd, Tottenham, Liverpool, Leicester and West Ham, only Leeds and West Brom have picked up any points against the league’s runaway leaders this term.
