The Saints make the journey to the capital to take on a Fulham side that have experienced mixed fortunes so far this season.
The Cottagers have managed three wins and two defeats, including a scintillating display midweek against Millwall, but were unconvincing at the weekend when going down 2-1 at home to Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Southampton picked up their first win of the season away to Brighton on Saturday and will be hoping to push on against Championship level opposition in cup action here.
Fulham Will Fancy Their Chances
Fulham will fancy their chances heading into this one as they ran out 3-2 winners when they last hosted the Saints in the top flight back in November. They were coming off of a seven-match league losing streak at the time and will be a tad more buoyant this time around.
Hasenhuttl’s side picked up their first points of the season at the weekend, although their opponents were down to 10 men for the majority of the match and the Saints were far from impressive.
In fact, they were winless in their last seven competitive matches before the weekend and had only won once in their last eight away, so Hasenhuttl will be overjoyed with the result. With one eye on Man Utd at the weekend, he’ll look to rejig his starting line-up for the cup.
Both Sides To Ring The Changes
Both teams will be looking at this fixture as a means of integrating some players into the team and giving things a shake-up.
Sofiane Boufal and Moussa Djenepo both look likely to be given a chance to for Southampton after strong appearances from the bench at the weekend, while Scott Parker can call upon the likes of Kevin McDonald, Bobby Reid and Aboubakar Kamara, with the Cottagers having kept the spine of the team they had last season.
He also has new signing Josh Onomah, who is yet to make an appearance for the club, but could be drafted into the squad after the defeat at the weekend.
Fulham To Win
Parker and his men will relish the opportunity of a cup run after their disappointing campaign last term, with their 934 completed passes at home to Millwall showcasing they have the required talent.
They’ll want to bounce back quickly from the weekend and with Parker winning four of his last six home games in charge, at the prices, his team looks good value to cause a small upset.
