France are strong favourites for the tournament given their outstanding array of talent and will expect to take the game to Germany in their opening encounter.
The Euro 2016 finalists and 2018 World Cup winners appear to be in the mood with convincing 3-0 victories over both Wales and Bulgaria in the build up to this tournament, with Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele all amongst the goals.
Those results leave the French with six wins from their past seven unbeaten matches, including a victory away in Portugal, and they arrive with all their key men all fit and available.
Joachim Low is aiming for one final hurrah as Germany boss and after poor results, has brought back Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller from the cold to add some experience to his squad.
The final straw was a 2-1 defeat to North Macedonia in their last competitive outing, and although they’ve since drawn 1-1 with Denmark and thrashed Latvia 7-1 in warm-up friendlies, they’ve still managed just three clean sheets in 14 matches now.
Those were garnered over the Czech Republic, Iceland and Romania, so it’s difficult to see them shutting out one of the strongest attacks in world football – boosted by the return of Karim Benzema after a six-year exile.
Both Teams To Score
Following their first Nations League game where they earned a goalless stalemate with France back in September 2018, Die Mannschaft have since failed to keep a clean sheet against the best teams they’ve encountered, even shipping six goals when facing Spain in November.
In eight clashes with Argentina, France, Spain or the Netherlands, they’ve conceded at least twice on seven occasions, and although they led at the break in five of these, they only ended up with a W1-D3-L4 record over this period.
Germany will at least have home advantage in all three group stage encounters. They’ve found the net in 63 off 66 home games going back to May 2010, including each of the past 17, so both teams to score certainly holds some appeal.
Although France are strong all over the pitch, it’s their attack that is truly stunning, though they’ve still claimed victory in each of their past eight on the road.
France Draw No Bet
Germany did beat France en route to their 2014 World Cup triumph, but since then Les Bleus have ruled the roost as they’ve claimed three wins from five unbeaten clashes.
We’d be tempted to back the French outright, but Didier Deschamps men look a dead cert draw no bet.
