Huge Importance On The Result For Both Teams

In what is widely considered the ‘Pool of Death’ France and Argentina are likely to be battling it out for that coveted second spot in the group, with England currently a far superior outfit.

Some may argue the scheduling may be poor, but to have this clash as only the third fixture of the tournament means less waiting for the fans as whoever suffers defeat in this clash can all but book their flight home.

France And Argentina Evenly Matched

There are cases to be made for both sides, and this will arguably be the most evenly contested matchup of the entire World Cup.

Indeed, as head-to-head records show, they’ve split their 12 matches since the start of the Rugby World Cup in France back in 2007, although it’s the Pumas that won both the pool and consolation match in their only two meetings to date in this prestigious tournament.

In fact, if we go even further back it gets worse for France as they’ve lost 10 of their 17 meetings this century, although it should be noted that eight of those were by fewer than 12 points and so we’re still expecting an extremely tight contest.

France Recent Form

Although Les Bleus have picked up wins in the two most recent head-to-heads, they are in mixed form of late.

Results like comprehensive victories over Scotland and Italy at home this year have been marred by losses to Fiji at the end of last year, and at least one defeat to each of the current top-five in the world since June 2018, shows they are not quite at a level to compete just yet.

Not to mention, they’ve won just two of their last 32 matches when on the road or at neutral venues against tier one outfits (excluding Italy) since 2013.

Argentina Recent Form

Although Argentina’s form looks worse on paper, the level of opposition they’ve been testing themselves against are far superior with their four matches this year coming against Rugby Championship sides New Zealand, South Africa and Australia, and they’ve been within a converted try in all but one of the aforementioned outings, which is no mean feat.

In fact, against Steve Hansen’s men they should’ve clinched victory in stoppage time had the referee not adjudged their driving maul to have been brought down legally.

Argentina Win by 1-12 Points

Both these sides have World Cup pedigree, with the European outfit reaching six of eight semi-finals and going a step further to the final on three occasions.

Meanwhile, the Pumas have reached four of the last five quarters and have reached the semis in two of the last three World Cups as they seem to gradually improve year on year, and our money is on them making the knockout stages again this time round.

Due to the nature of this game, both teams will be fighting tooth and nail for the win, and for that reason we envisage a close and hardly fought contest.

Argentina have managed to keep scores relatively low so far this year with the exception their penultimate outing against the Springboks who remain unbeaten in 2019, and we see a narrow win

Argentina Win By 1-12 Points At 15/8
