French Complacency
The world champions were always going to be favourites in their own backyard against Albania, but Les Bleus have been known to throw in an odd wobble in qualifiers in recent times and shouldn’t take things for granted.
Turkey gave a recent example of that as they stunned France 2-0 in June, while the World Cup qualifiers saw Belarus hold them to a goalless stalemate as Luxembourg did the same in Toulouse.
Injuries A Concern For Deschamps
Didier Deschamps doesn’t have his strongest team available to him either with a string of absentees in midfield and attack. Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante have been the preferred choice for the central axis in the 4-2-3-1 that France have largely deployed since the start of the World Cup.
They and fellow Premier League midfielder Tanguy Ndombele are all out injured, while further forwards there’s no Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Martial, Ousmane Dembele or Alexandre Lacazette, though the latter is fit and was spurned in favour of the misfiring Olivier Giroud.
Still, this is a squad brimming with talent and fortunately for France, the international break sees them take on Albania and Andorra at home, so they shouldn’t fail to deliver a pair of victories.
France To Win 2-0 Correct Score
The visitors for this clash have lost 15 of their last 24 games going back to October 2016, with their best results over this period friendly wins over Turkey (3-2) and Wales (1-0), as the latter only used key duo Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey as second half substitutes that day.
However, Albania only lost 1-0 and 2-0 at home to Italy and Spain respectively, as well as 2-0 and 3-0 away to the same teams over this period, while they also only went down 2-0 to France via late goals in Euro 2016.
Under 2.5 Goals
France should be made to work for their win then. The hosts have hit four goals in six games since August 2017, but on each occasion Mbappe was amongst the scorers and a more conservative victory should be in the offing.
Indeed, Albania rarely score in defeat, with just one of their last 10 losses seeing them register, but they can at least put up a respectable defensive effort here.
France To Win 2-0 Correct Score At 5.25
