Saturday’s late kick-off in the Premier League will see Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. Much has been made about both sides need for reinforcements, however neither side has been active in the transfer window as yet. The Blues look set to confirm a loan deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain, adding some much-needed firepower up top. While Arsenal announced this week that the club does not have the funds to bring players on a permanent basis. Not good news for Arsenal fans hoping for a return to the Champions League next season.
The Formbook
The Gunners form of late has been mixed with a record of five wins, four losses and one draw. The latest result was a surprise 1-0 defeat to West Ham, after which Unai Emery admitted his team need to be more consistent to achieve a top four finish. Arsenal’s inconsistency puts them as outsiders for this one and are 15/8 to beat Chelsea.
Chelsea’s form in all competitions has also been decidedly mixed, but they appear back on track in the League where Maurizio Sarri’s side are undefeated since a one nil home loss to Leicester City just before Christmas. The Blues head into the game the slight 11/8 favourites to beat Arsenal. The draw is available at 13/5.
Defence vs Attack
There are just six points separating the two teams. Come the end of the season this match could decide who bags that final Champions League spot. At the back, the Blues have been strong all season- sitting joint second with Manchester City in goals conceded (17) and are 7/2 to keep a clean sheet and beat Arsenal on Saturday.
Defensively, Arsenal have been unpredictable, but goals down the other end have not been hard to come by. Leading the way is the league’s joint top goal scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with 14 goals. The 29-year-old’s contribution has helped Arsenal to third in the league for goals scored (46), but predicting the type of performance Arsenal will deliver is difficult. Will it be the team that scored four against Fulham, or one the beaten by West Ham? Those that feel the Gunners attacking capabilities could get them out of trouble this the weekend, could pick up 7/2 for Arsenal to win and both teams to score.
Goals Galore
Although Chelsea have been solid at the back this season, they’ve only managed one clean sheet in their last four games against Arsenal. The last match between the two sides in August ended in a five-goal thriller with Chelsea emerging the 3-2 winners. So, have a look at over 2.5 goals scored at 8/13 and 17/10 for a total of 4-6 goals scored.
Slow Starters
While Arsenal have scored first in 21 of their 32 games this season, leading at the break has proven difficult- only occurring twice against Fulham and Burnley respectively. With Arsenal tendency to start slow Chelsea winning the first half at 8/5 is a tempting offer.
