This week sees the Carabao Cup semi-finals getting underway. With three of the Premier League’s top four in action, as well as surprise League One package Burton Albion, we’ve previewed the first legs and the best of the betting here.
Tottenham vs Chelsea
In the first of the two semi-finals, Tottenham welcome Chelsea to Wembley. Having lost their last two matches against Tottenham, Chelsea head into this one as 23/10 outsiders while Spurs are installed as 23/20 favourites. The draw, available at 5/2, looks less likely given none of the previous six meetings have ended honours even. A third win on the bounce for Tottenham against their London rivals Chelsea would be the first time they’ve managed the feat since 1963.
Maurizio Sarri’s side were totally outplayed when the two sides met back in November, with the 3-1 score line perhaps even a little kind on the away team that day. That same score line separated the teams the previous time they met too. If you’re looking for more of a potential big return, you can get Tottenham to win 3-1 at 25/1.
Dele Alli loves a goal against the Blues, with two in his last two. Having started and not scored in the 7-0 rout against Tranmere last time out, the midfielder will be keen to get back on the scoresheet here. You can get Dele to score anytime at 13/5.
Following a much-needed brace for Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata against Nottingham Forest, the Spanish forward could earn a start at Wembley. Morata to score anytime is tempting at 9/4 whilst penalty taker Eden Hazard is available to score first at 5/1.
Man City vs Burton
Cup holders Man City have received the most favourable draw on paper, with League One side Burton standing between them and a place in the final. Wednesday’s first leg semi-final will be the first time the two sides have met on the pitch.
More than 50 places separate the two teams in the football league and that’s certainly reflected in the betting, with Burton coming in as a 40/1 chance to win the first leg while City are 1/16 on for the win at Etihad.
If Burton weren’t already aware of the difficulty of the task they face at the Etihad, Championship side Rotherham’s 7-0 hammering at the weekend will have done the job. Leroy Sané has two goals in his last two outings for City and Sané to score first is at 4/1.
On the plus side for Burton, they scored four away goals in the league at the weekend – a game in which Academy graduate Marcus Harness bagged a hat-trick. Both teams to score and Man City to win is tempting at 21/10.
