We’re through to the Quarter Final stages of the Carabao Cup. As the top teams struggle with a festive fixture pile-up, fans are likely to see wholesale changes to their team’s starting XIs as managers rotate players.
There are eight teams left vying to win the league cup. Reigning Carabao Cup winners Manchester City are still in the hunt, along with five other Premier League teams and two Football League clubs. Here Genting Casino looks at the betting for these four ties.
Arsenal vs Tottenham
In what appears to be the pick of the fixtures on paper, both sides have a reputation for rotating their players when it comes to this competition. And although Arsenal beat their North London rivals when the two sides met in the league two weeks ago, both clubs could name very different starting line-ups come Wednesday night.
The last meeting between the two sides saw Arsenal run out the 4-2 winners. Since then Arsenal have been rocked by a shock 3-2 defeat away to struggling Southampton, while Spurs performed something of a minor miracle by drawing away at Barcelona to qualify for the Champions League last 16. There’s little between the two in the betting, with Arsenal the slight favourites at 6/4 with Spurs backed at 17/10 for the win.
It remains to be seen whether the likes of Aubameyang and Kane will start the match. But they can be backed at 4/1 and 7/2 respectively to score first. With no less than six goals scored at Emirates back at the start of the month, an Arsenal win and both teams to score at 3/1 represents good value.
Leicester vs Manchester City
Leicester face the daunting task of going up against the defending champions. The Foxes have struggled for form of late too, failing to win any of their last three games. That is reflected in the betting with the home side a 15/2 outsider to progress. Man City head to the King Power stadium full of confidence and the 4/11 favourites, fresh off a comfortable 3-1 win over Everton in the league. That game saw two much needed goals for Gabriel Jesus, who hadn’t scored since August. The spritely Brazilian is 16/5 to be the first name on the scoresheet on Tuesday night, while he’s a 19/20 shot to score anytime.
Chelsea vs Bournemouth
It’s been a turbulent time off the pitch for Chelsea, with fan trouble dominating the headlines of late. On the pitch, however, Maurizio Sarri’s side bounced back from a surprise league defeat to Wolves with consecutive victories against Man City and then Brighton. Reports of the demise of ‘Sarri-ball’ were premature and Chelsea appear back to their flowing best. Their opponents Bournemouth come into the game off two straight defeats and the betting showcases that with the Cherries 9/1 outsiders for the win. Chelsea fans will have been delighted to see Eden Hazard back amongst the goals at the weekend, netting his first goal since October. Expect 3/10 fancied Chelsea to get the job done at Stamford Bridge.
Middlesbrough vs Burton
In the only all EFL tie, Middlesbrough welcome Burton to the Riverside. Middlesbrough sit sixth in the Championship, whilst Burton are 15th in League One. Burton have reached the quarter finals for the first time in their history. It would be some achievement for the League One side to progress to the semi-finals and that’s reflected in the betting, with Burton 7/1 outsiders to stay in the competition. Meanwhile, 2/5 fancied Boro are looking to advance to their first major domestic cup semi-final since 2006.
