Everton should be reasonably fresh for this encounter with their game against Man City postponed, meaning they haven’t played since Boxing Day.
It’s also allowed star man Richarlison enough time to recover, having missed the Boxing Day clash with Sheffield Utd, though James Rodriguez, Allan and Lucas Digne remained sidelined for the Toffees.
David Moyes also has good news with returning firepower as Michail Antonio was fit enough for a cameo from the bench last time out, while Jarrod Bowen was also a substitute in that game and should return to the line-up.
However, West have entered a slight sticky patch and after a run of four wins from five games, they’ve now gone four without a win.
A goalless stalemate at Southampton last time out isn’t a bad result in isolation, but draws hosting Crystal Palace and Brighton, as well as a bruising 3-0 defeat away at Chelsea suggests they could struggle here.
West Ham have also won just four times on the road since Christmas 2019 (W4-D4-L10). Although the first seven matches in this sequence were all defeats as they’ve since improved, only the first of these games came under old boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Meanwhile the four victories largely came over weaker outfits, including Norwich last term and Sheffield Utd this season.
Everton To Beat West Ham
Up against the traditional ‘Big Six’ and Leicester, the Hammers are a very poor W1-D2-L8 over this entire period.
They conceded at least twice in eight of these games, including four of the last five, while they also lost 4-1 when travelling to Goodison Park in a League Cup meeting back in September.
That leaves the Toffees with four wins from five head to heads on Merseyside since 2016/17, with each victory coming by a minimum two-goal margin.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men are competing at the sharp end of the table this season and have won each of their last four league games against Chelsea, Leicester, Arsenal and Sheffield Utd, with the only goal they conceded coming from the spot against the Gunners.
They did also suffer a defeat in the League Cup hosting an in-form Man Utd, but with their last two league games here over Frank Lampard and Mikel Arteta’s sides, should use momentum and a crucial few days’ extra rest to full advantage.
Everton To Win 2-1
Five of Everton’s last six league games have featured fewer than three goals, but with both sides boosted in attack, there could be more output this time around.
Both teams have scored in nine of the Toffees’ last 11 at home, while the same has occurred in eight of West Ham’s past 12 outings.
David Moyes’ side have scored in four of their last five defeats across all competitions, and we’ll have a punt at the 2-1 scoreline.
