A defeat to QPR on penalties during the week wasn’t the ideal result for Everton in the League Cup.
Rafa Benitez opted for a strong team as well which will only knock the confidence of the team and with Jordan Pickford, Seamus Coleman, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all out with injury still, they’ll need to find another gear from somewhere.
You could say that Norwich sacrificed their midweek fixture with Liverpool in the cup in order to be fresh for this Premier League clash.
The Canaries have now lost six of their seven outings this term in all competitions following that recent 3-0 defeat and given that sole victory came against Bournemouth, they need to find a way to start winning some points.
The visitors’ losing run when including their last spell in England’s top-flight back in 2019/20 extends to 15 games, while their record on the road since the start of that campaign is a mere W1-D3-L17, failing to score in 15.
Interestingly, that three-pointer did come at Goodison Park though, and this could be a little closer than most would expect given the current injury list the Toffees have.
Demarai Gray To Score Anytime
The hosts have won both their games at this stadium this term by exactly 3-1 margins against Southampton and Burnley and they should have enough about them to get the job done.
In the absence of their top choice forwards, we’d expect the Demarai Gray to step up and put in a match winning performance.
The ex-Leicester man has scored in three of his last four matches and has been one of their standout performers, netting a goal every 114 minutes over that period.
Everton To Win To Nil
With Norwich already looking bound for the Championship even at this early stage, we think looking at how Everton have performed against the previously relegated sides is worthwhile.
Indeed, they’ve gone W18-D6-L6 against such sides since the start of 2016/17, winning to nil in 67% of those victories.
Daniel Farke’s men have just two goals to date this season and with one of those coming from the penalty spot, we’re confident in the hosts’ chances of keeping the likes of Teemu Pukki out.
Moreover, Benitez’s men currently sit in the top six of the table after a promising start to their season, as only Aston Villa have been able to get the better of them, and we think they’ll get the job done this weekend against a lacklustre visiting side.
