Recent Form
The first Merseyside derby of the year sees one side enter the weekend top of the table and the other sitting just outside the top four, though you’d have been forgiven for thinking it were the other way around.
Everton are the only side with a 100% record from four games so far and sit top of the table as a result.
Everton Or Draw Double Chance
They’ve been prolific this season with no side scoring more than them (12) so far, and what bodes well for them here is that nine of their 12 goals so far have come in their two matches at Goodison Park, and with Liverpool’s away display last time out we wouldn’t feel comfortable backing them to keep their rivals at bay.
It’s been constant draws in this fixture in recent years, with seven of the last eight meetings here ending all square and they’ve not exactly been the most exhilarating of games.
There have been just three goals in total across the last six meetings, with the most recent three all ending goalless, though there’s a case to be made for this year bucking the trend.
Although we’re still in the early knockings of the season, the defending has been below par to say the least, while VAR has led to an increase in goals, notably from the penalty spot. There have been 25 spot kicks so far this season from just 38 matches, 28% of which have been awarded by Michael Oliver alone and in what promises to be a hotly contested Derby, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Oliver point to the spot at some time during the 90.
Richarlison To Score Anytime
Richarlison and Allan look as though they could be back in for Toffees to give them a boost, with the former the designated penalty taker so at a decent enough price, we’ll back the Brazilian to get on the scoresheet one way or another on his return.
Jurgen Klopp will have a boost for this fixture too, with Sadio Mane and Thiago both having completed their quarantine after testing positive for Covid.
Both have been training which suggests Mane, at least, could be launched straight back into the side. It’s fair to say that the Reds missed the Senegalese forward in their defeat at Villa Park, though that alone wasn’t the reason for their performance and it’s surprising to see them so short at a ground they haven’t won at since 2016.
Everton To Win And Both Teams To Score
With history telling us this will be a draw, and with form telling us there should be goals and that Everton could cause some trouble, the double chance looks the more reserved way to go at odds-on, though the risk-reward option is presented in Everton and Both Teams to Score, so that’s worth a small punt.
