Man Utd v Omonia Nicosia
Omonia Nicosia remain winless in Group E, but after a poor 3-0 defeat to Sheriff Tiraspol on matchday one, they have at least acquitted themselves reasonably well, with defeats to Real Sociedad and Man Utd both coming by one-goal margins. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the Cypriot club have now lost five of seven appearances in all competitions, including losses to domestic outfits Apollon and AEL, while they’ve conceded at least twice in five of eight outings since the start of September.
Man Utd will be confident of delivering a result against weaker opposition, especially considering they’ve now won seven of nine matches in all competitions, with the exceptions versus Real Sociedad an irresistible Man City. Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Martin Dubravka are all sidelined by injury, reducing Erik ten Haag’s potential to rotate his charges, though Fred and Anthony Elanga might hope for rare opportunities.
Cristiano Ronaldo bagged his first league strike of the season and with Anthony Martial suffering a setback, the Portuguese forward should be the man to lead the line here. His only other effort so far this season came in this competition against Sheriff Tiraspol, but he’s had limited minutes in which to plunder goals and there can be no questioning of his European pedigree. Given the manner in which the visitors have conceded goals of late, it would be a surprise if Ronaldo can’t register on the scoreboard.
RONALDO TO SCORE ANYTIME
Bodo Glimt v Arsenal
Arsenal have won a sensational 10 of 11 games this campaign and there’s little reason to think they’ll be held up here, especially following a 3-0 triumph over their Norwegian opposition last week. In fact, the Gunners scored at least twice in each of those 10 victories, bagging three in each of their past four fixtures despite having faced both Tottenham and Liverpool.
Bodo Glimt offer up their own attacking threat, with that reverse clash at the Emirates the only time they’ve failed to score a goal in 19 appearances dating back into July. 14 of these games saws a minimum of three goals, while both teams have scored in 11 of the last 14, so we certainly wouldn’t rule out a consolation effort from the hosts.
Indeed, despite their obvious improvement at the back since William Saliba slotted in, Arsenal themselves have only registered two clean sheets across their past eight fixtures. No doubt Mikel Arteta will rotate here as well, with the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu and Rob Holding set to get some rare game time, further increasing the possibility of the hosts getting onto the scoresheet.
There may also be rotation in the forward line, with Marquinhos, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson vying for game time, though that should ensure that the bench consists of first team regulars that can add impetus for the Gunners should they need it.
