Cardiff v Burnley - EPL Betting Preview

Cardiff face fellow strugglers Burnley on Sunday (4pm) as the hosts bid to get off the bottom of the Premier League table. We look at some of the trends and odds available for the big clash…

CARDIFF v BURNLEY

With just two points from six games since returning to the top flight, Cardiff City’s problems have been plain to see in the last few weeks.

After being knocked out of the League Cup at home by Norwich, they have lost three successive Premier League games and shipped 11 goals in the process.

While those games came against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City – three of the elite sides – it is clear that the Bluebirds have some issues to address at both ends of the pitch.

Sol Bamba was something of a surprise omission from Neil Warnock’s side that lost 5-0 at home to Manchester City last weekend, with Bruno Manga in the heart of defence partnering captain Sean Morrison, who suffered a torrid afternoon. Manga gifted Riyad Mahrez his second goal and it remains to be seen if Bamba is restored.

As well as a lack of Premier League-quality personnel, Cardiff have suffered a few injuries and Lee Peltier joined Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Josh Murphy and Aron Gunnarsson on the sidelines at the weekend after suffering a shoulder injury during the demolition by champions Manchester City.

Up front, Cardiff went scoreless in their first three EPL games against Bournemouth, Newcastle and Huddersfield, before leading twice against Arsenal, only to lose 3-2 at home. Cardiff have scored just three goals in six outings and they face tricky trips to Tottenham and Liverpool in the next few weeks, so this is starting to look like a relegation battle for Neil Warnock’s side and the Genting Casino soccer odds have them favourites at 3/10 to go down.

WOOD OFF THE MARK?

Burnley sit in 16th place heading into the weekend, with four points from six games. Seventh last year, it appears that their UEFA Cup exertions may have caught up with Sean Dyche’s side.

While they gained their first Premier League win with a 4-0 thumping of Bournemouth last weekend, the Cherries spurned a host of chances and Burnley promptly lost to Burton Albion in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Dyche’s honest assessments in post-match interviews have been a breath of fresh air to the Premier League and it would not make many people happy to see the Clarets lose their top-level status should results go against them. Genting Casino soccer odds have Burnley at 13/8 to be relegated.

Burnley have looked more of a threat going forward, with James Tarkowski and Ashley Barnes both netting twice already this term. That shows they are a threat from set-pieces and open play.

While Chris Wood has yet to score this term, it can only be a matter of time before the New Zealand international gets off the mark and he would possibly be value at 8/5 to score at any time and he his Genting Casino online soccer odds of 9/2 to be the first scorer will no doubt tempt some.

CARDIFF TO GAIN FIRST WIN?

Cardiff are 6/4 to get their first three points of the season and historically, they have a decent record against Burnley. The Clarets have managed to win just one of their last 18 meetings with Cardiff, so given Burnley’s modest away form this term, the Genting Casino online football odds of 7/10 for Cardiff to either win or draw on the Double Chance market might seem value.

It seems sensible to ignore Burnley’s League Cup exit at the hands of Nigel Clough’s Burton, as the Clarets have suffered exits to lesser sides such as Port Vale and Accrington Stanley in the past.

They have managed to score at Aberdeen, Olympiacos, Fulham, and Burton this season, and look a threat going forward from open play. They are 9/4 to score over 1.5 goals.

Similarly, Cardiff have invariably managed to find the net when the Clarets are in town. They have failed to score just once in the last 13 home meetings, so there will be some who think there is value in a Cardiff win and over 1.5 goals in total at 12/5.
