A convincing 33-0 win over the Italians was what England needed to get back on track, though anything other than a comprehensive victory in Rome would have been worthy of note, and this will be a much sterner test against Wales.
The Red Roses will need to win all their remaining outings if they want to stand any chance of regaining this title, though they’ll have to come through the reigning champions to do so.
Wales managed to edge out Scotland in Cardiff last weekend to keep their hopes of a title defence alive, though a trip to Twickenham is certainly a daunting task and anything other than a win will see their already slim chances be wiped away.
A 40-24 victory over England on home soil last year looks convincing on the surface, though on balance of play that scoreline certainly flatters the Welsh, with several controversial decisions being made throughout the contest.
That result meant the last six contests between these sides seem both sit a balanced W3-L3, though at Twickenham, Eddie Jones’ men have now won five on the bounce against the Dragons.
England To Win
While the hosts have won six of their last seven matches, it should be noted that four of those victories came against weaker sides USA, Canada, Tonga and Italy, and when looking at exclusively Six Nations ties, England have gone W3-L4 from their last seven, with two of those wins coming against the Italians.
On the other hand, the vast majority of those matches have been played away from home, and across all competitions England have now won seven in a row at Twickenham, a run which has included wins over South Africa, Australia and France.
Jones has reverted to some more experienced names for this clash, with the dangerous Manu Tuilagi and Courtney Lawes both restored to the starting line-up. Tuilagi is making his first Six Nations appearance for two years, and his partnership with Henry Slade in the centres could be a real worry for this visiting Welsh side.
Wayne Pivac has made two changes to his side, again opting for a more experienced approach with Taulupe Faletau and Josh Adams coming into the side to bring some extra firepower.
This is certainly going to be a hard-fought clash with it being a must win for either side, though England have had both their fixtures so far away from home and with fans having been extremely patient, they’ll be in full voice seeing their side play at home for the first time in 2022, and that gives England the edge for us here.
