Recent Form

The director of South African rugby Rassie Erasmus has been banned from international duty for two months after being found guilty by World Rugby for threatening a referee, meaning he will miss the England game on Saturday.

The Springboks have gone unbeaten from their two outings so far over Wales and Scotland, and will be determined to go through the Autumn Tour unbeaten for the first time since 2013.

England also remain unbeaten in the Autumn Internationals picking up their latest win against southern hemisphere rivals Australia, though this game against the reigning world champions will be their toughest challenge yet, with it being their first meeting since the 2019 World Cup Final in Tokyo.

In that game England lost the front row battle which in turn made them lose the game, and South Africa’s “Bomb Squad” will be a determining factor in the outcome of this match. If England end up losing the scrummaging battle like they did in the final, the end result will likely be the same.

Jacques Nienaber has made three changes to the starting line-up that defeated Scotland last weekend, with Handre Pollard, Cobus Reinach and Franco Mostert all in the starting team this week.

While Nienaber said these changes were rotational, Herschel Jantijes hasn’t found his footing this Autumn and was substituted at half-time in the last game against Scotland.

South Africa To Win

England have two big names missing from the game this weekend in Jamie George and Owen Farrell. This will really dampen their chances of winning owing to the fluidity that those two bring to the side.

Marcus Smith is likely to be the kicking replacement for Owen Farrell and they could see a decrease in efficiency considering his lack of experience on the international stage.

The evens handicap line has England at around two point favourites, and that is almost entirely down to this game being played on home soil.

Recent head-to-heads are split at three apiece and in the games that the Springbok’s have won, they were victorious by a margin of 3, 11 and 20. Vice-versa, the winning margins were 1, 15 and 16 for England.

Four of the last five have been played away from Twickenham, with that game seeing England take the spoils by a single point.

In what’s an extremely tough game to call, the return of Handre Pollard mirrored by the absence of Owen Farrell could be where this game is won and lost.

It’s very rare that the Boks go into a game as underdogs, and on this occasion they look like the value bet in the 1x2 market.
