In one of the more remarkable England victories in recent memory, a B string side including five ODI debutants saw off a strong Pakistan team with notable ease at Sophia Gardens on Thursday, and while we wouldn’t expect a routing of the same degree this time round, the hosts have certainly thrown their hat in the ring this series.
We’d expect the visitors to grow into the series, though they’ll need to fix a lot at Lord’s if they want to do so, not least the potency of their bowling.
Their seam bowling didn’t have the desired impact and unless the conditions in London cater much more to their pace and swing, it could be another difficult day for their attack.

Pakistan To Beat England
Despite their poor performance with the bat, it’s clear that they have world class talent running through the top of their order, with Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman still two of the most dangerous batsmen in world cricket at the moment.
The only issue with them is that there is a lack of urgency about the way they play, and while they’re more than capable of going the full 50 overs this time round, they may struggle to put on a massive total.
We’d expect few changes, if any, to either side, and that lack of experience could come back at England for this ODI.
Despite the obvious talent, Dawid Malan is suited to a shorter version of the game, while Zak Crawley isn’t quite out of the woods just yet despite his impressive display with the bat in Cardiff.
We’d expect this game to be far closer and with the odds shortening on Ben Stokes’ side after their comprehensive victory last time out, the value looks to be with the visitors who still look to be the strongest side, player for player.
