Malan Eased Pressure On Root
Dawid Malan’s 70 in the match has proven that he can add some extra-quality to what was a struggling top three, while it also eases much of the pressure on Root coming in at four, though it’s easy to forget just how dominant the visitors were in the first couple of tests.
India haven’t become a poor side overnight, and on a flatter and faster pitch with less swing and movement, their top order shouldn’t struggle as much against the likes of Anderson and Robinson as they did in Headingley on what is effectively a very strong batting wicket.
India Draw No Bet
Kohli’s men certainly aren’t pushovers and will be determined to bounce back fast from what was a sizable defeat in Leeds, though they have an unwanted record to tend with here.
They have only ever won once at the Oval, with that result coming all the way back in 1971, not winning any of the subsequent eight test outings there and losing each of the last three.
They have also followed up an innings defeat with a second one on three of the last four occasions, including here in 2014, though the most recent occurrence in 2018 saw them topple England by 203 runs in Nottingham.
All things considered, India’s resolve should shake off that innings defeat and on a wicket that is certainly tailored towards batsmen, India will feel confident they have the strength in depth there to excel, while they have a pace attack that can cause a lot of issues themselves.
They seem the more complete side at the moment, though a draw no bet looks the way to go on this surface, especially considering five of India’s last eight visits here have ended in a stalemate.
