Dominant India
India have dominated this series so far and even if they didn’t take the first Test, they managed to get their win in remarkable style by toppling England on the final day of the second to take a 1-0 series lead.
While the hosts are still very much in with a chance of taking the series with three Tests still to play, serious change is needed as they don’t currently look like a side capable of beating India, as they’re still waiting for their first home Test victory in 2021, drawing two and losing two against New Zealand and India so far.
Changes For England
There will be changes at the top of the order for England, with Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley missing out here after poor displays so far in the series.
Dawid Malan comes into the squad, while Saqib Mahmood comes in to strengthen the bowling attack with Jack Leach missing out.
This green Headingley track will suit pace bowlers, so Mahmood, Jimmy Anderson and Ollie Robinson are going to be key to England’s chances here, though in truth it’s India’s pace attack that has been the most impressive this series and with a stronger and more stable batting line-up, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see the visitors take a 2-0 lead here.
Root In Top Form
Joe Root has topped scored for England in all four innings this series and while it has proven that his side relies on his runs too much, it also highlights the gulf in class at the moment between him and the rest of this team.
With this being his home stadium, we can see him getting his third century of the series on what looks to be a strong batting pitch.
