MAN UTD vs DERBY COUNTY
Premier League Manchester United have looked far from convincing thus far and after beating Young Boys in their UEFA Champions League clash in Berne last Wednesday, they were somewhat fortunate to come away with a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves on Saturday.
Derby have made a decent start to the season, with just one loss out of their last six league games. On Saturday, Frank Lampard’s side came from behind to beat high-flying Brentford 3-1.
United have won six of the last seven meetings and have scored at least twice in their last four clashes, all in Cup competitions. They have lost just twice in the last 17 meetings.
United are considered 2/9 favourites on the Genting Casino soccer odds, with Derby at 11/1. The draw is available at 11/2.
Derby’s win moved them to sixth in the Championship table and into the promotion playoff places, and getting to the Premier League is going to be their focus.
Jose Mourinho does not yet have a big enough squad to challenge on all fronts, but will be determined to win some silverware and the EFL Cup would appear to be their best chance of doing so. United’s Genting Casino League Cup outright odds are 6/1 to lift the trophy.
Derby have scored at least twice in four of their six Championship games and are Evens with Genting Casino to score over 0.5 goals. United have only kept one clean sheet in their five Premier League games and conceded three to both Brighton and Tottenham in losing efforts. They are 7/10 to keep a clean sheet and it is 23/20 for both teams to score.
Wolves and Leicester is a fascinating all-Premier League match-up and they invariably play close games. Indeed, seven of the last 14 meetings have ended in a stalemate. It is 12/5 that this will be the case in this EFL clash.
Wolves have lost just one of their last seven home clashes with the Foxes, who are 4/7 to either win or draw on the Genting Casino football odds. Leicester have scored in six of their last seven meetings with Wolves and are 4/1 to win to nil.
Wolves held Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday and had plenty of chances to come away with all three points, while Leicester downed Huddersfield 3-1 at home, bouncing back from two successive defeats.
These two met on the opening day of the season when Leicester beat the EPL new boys 2-0, a clash in which Jamie Vardy was sent off. He was on the mark again on Saturday and may be of interest in the anytime goalscorer market.
Palace have a fair record against the Baggies, having lost just four of the last 17 meetings and while they failed to score in a 0-0 draw with Newcastle on Saturday, they created plenty of chances. They have also kept West Brom scoreless in four of the last five meetings.
Palace are considered 7/5 shots to win with Genting Casino, while West Brom, who have made a fine start to their Championship campaign, at 15/8 to gain a fifth successive home win at the Hawthorns. The draw is on offer at 23/10
Seven of the last eight meetings have yielded under three goals and while it is 8/11 that there will be under 2.5 goals, West Brom have scored at least twice in their last four home games and have scored at least once in their last five. Palace have scored in each of their last three away games and it is Evens that there will be three goals or more scored in total.
The fog appears to have cleared at Turf Moor, albeit temporarily following their 4-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend. But the Premier League team faces a dicey trip to Burton Albion, who saw their scheduled game at Barnsley called off at the weekend following a medical emergency.
These two teams have met just twice before, with Burnley needing extra time to beat Burton 6-3 in the League Cup back in 2011. The Clarets also won the previous meeting 3-1 in the previous season’s FA Cup.
Nigel Clough’s Burton, who won at Shrewsbury in the first round and defeated Aston Villa in the second round, have won their last four home games in League One. Burnley, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, have faced a difficult start and have picked up one point from three road trips in the EPL. Burnley are Evens to win this clash, however. Burton are priced at 11/4, with the draw at 5/2.
