Recent Form
Dundee have already suffered defeat to Rangers twice this season and on current form it’s hard to see a different ending here.
The hosts have only won three of 17 matches since early December (W3-D4-L10), as two of those victories were picked up over third-tier outfits Dumbarton and Peterhead in this competition, as they’ve benefited from a kind path to the quarter-finals.
That poor form has seen Dundee slip to the bottom of the Premiership, conceding more goals in the top flight than anyone, with only fellow stragglers St. Johnstone scoring fewer at the other end.
Indeed, ignoring those encounters with lower division sides, Dundee have failed to find the net in eight of their last 13 matches, bagging just seven goals in total over this spell, while they’ve mustered just the solitary strike across their past four.
Whereas Dundee are clearly struggling, Rangers have managed to pick themselves up quite impressively following a damaging 3-0 defeat to Celtic at the start of February.
They’ve won seven of 10 unbeaten games since then, including a pair of pulsating encounters with German giants Borussia Dortmund, while they registered clean sheets in all but one of those six victories.
Rangers To Win To Nil
They’ve now shut out their opponents in three on the trot, taking slender 1-0 wins over St. Johnstone and Aberdeen, before earning a commanding 3-0 lead in their first leg against Crvena Zvezda midweek, even if they did have veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor to thank for some big saves.
Even excluding the Ger’s impressive European results, as well as domestic cup games with lower division sides, they’re W12-D4-L1 under Giovanni van Bronckhorst so far, with that sole defeat the aforementioned loss to Celtic at Parkhead.
11 of those victories were accompanied by clean sheets, and even if Rangers are more prone to conceding goals on the road than at Ibrox, Dundee’s poor record at the sharp end would suggest the visitors should shut their opponents out here.
In fact, Rangers have won five of the last six head-to-heads since 2018, with a 1-1 draw the only time that Dundee were able to register a goal.
With an aggregate score of 17-1 across these meetings, it would come as no surprise if there was a sizeable difference between the two sides come the final whistle.
However, the Gers haven’t been quite so prolific on their travels and only managed a 1-0 win in their league meeting with Dundee at Dens Park back in September, so the win to nil appears a more solid betting route than the handicap in this one.
PREDICTION:
RANGERS TO WIN TO NIL
